I visited the Legon Botanical Gardens with my family and although it wasn't a planned trip for this vacation, it became the highlight of our vacation in Ghana. They have activities for the young and old. Zip lines, canopy walk, trampolines among others and in general a very relaxing atmosphere.

Aburi Botanical Gardens

Snaking through the lush Akwapim hills, these gardens comprise great lawns planted with native and imported trees and plants.

... in the craziness that is Accra. Perched up on a hilltop, about 20 miles outside the city center, Aburi Botanical Gardens is an interesting, lovely place to stroll around and appreciate the tremendous diversity of African flora. Our guide Harriet, was sweet as could be, spoke English very well, and was very knowledgeable about the plants she was showing us. The tour was about two hours total. Afterward, we stopped at the ice cream stand for a nice, cool treat!

Labadi Pleasure Beach

This popular beach is always packed on weekends. Best if you go late afternoon to evening. There are several different food vendors, bars, street barbecue stands, etc competing for your attention so customer service is super. There’s always music playing. If you’re lucky, some of the locals will do dance and acrobat displays I in hopes that they get some money. But it isn’t compulsory to pay. Sometimes the water comes all the way to the sitting area in the beach sand. I advice you don’t go when popular artists do shows because there’s too many people and security doesn’t match. Aside that, it’s my go to for night beach.

Shai Hills Resource Reserve

One of the very last protected patches of coastal savannah in Ghana and it's an awesome place to look for birds. The landscape is nice. Make sure you visit very early in the morning or late in the afternoon as it can get pretty hot during the day. When you visit, you'll get a guide assigned to you. Not sure why this is needed as I came with my own birding guide. But he was nice and very interested in birds. He surely knew a lot about the history of the country.
