The city of Freiburg im Breisgau sits austerely on the edge of the Black Forest. Home to one of Germany’s oldest universities and a Gothic sandstone cathedral, it’s a hub for academics and medieval history buffs. Chug German suds at a local brewery, then hop a cable car up Schauinsland mountain, where astounding views and a solar observatory await.

This was our 3rd visit but hadn't been back for about 10 years. The Spa is set in forest, just outside of Freiburg. We visited for the day from Alsace, France, where we were based. The outdoor pools are naturally heated, with varying temperatures depending on which pool you are in. There is a lazy river, bubble pools and a lane for serious swimming. In addition there are a number of fountains and showers which are direct from the source, so quite hot! The indoor pool is a pleasant temperature with hotter jacuzzi style pools to try. Not somewhere to go on a HOT day, but for any other time, very restorative. The staff speak enough English to get by and on entry you are given a token which operates the lockers and slots into a wristband. This then becomes your payment method for all food and drink once in the spa. This took us by surprise as this must have been introduced since our last visit. It means you don't have to take your wallet into the spa. Upon leaving, you place your token in the pay station outside the changing rooms and the bill comes up for you to pay (Cash or Card) before you leave by the turnstiles. You wont be able to leave without paying! Thoroughly recomment this Spa for anyone.
