I am Sámi reindeer herder Petri Mattus and I invite you to my home and reindeer farm to be my family´s quest. On reservation you have a chance to join our everyday life for a little moment. During the winter months (Mid December - April) we offer our program, which takes you to the wilderness in a sledge pulled by a snowmobile. Reservations required. In May You may join us to see the new born calves. Please, make a reservation at least the day before. Our main work is reindeer herding and some days are reserved for reindeer work only and visits for the guests are limited because of that. - Reservations Required

We really loved our trip to this farm. Petri is a wonderful and thoughtful guide and we had a fun snowmobile led sleigh ride to a reindeer grazing area, where Petri was able to call about 100 reindeer that we could take pictures of and hang out around. Petri gave great insight into the reindeer herding life, and his wife explained the basics of Sami language and culture and they both answered every question. I would highly recommend this trip and thank Petri and his family for opening his farm for people to learn about reindeer. Make sure you dress warm as you will be outside for several hours.

Orbas Reindeer Farm

Hey you traveller! We’re a local reindeer herder family from Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland. With us, you’ll get to know the tradition of Lappish reindeer herding culture at our family farm. Reindeer herding is our lifestyle, and with us you’ll experience traditional, calm, but simultaniously modern reindeer herding culture. Our farm is located in a remote location at the furthermost corner of Rovaniemi, far beyond the street lights and the facilities of modern lifestyle.

We visited the family and they were willing to share their lives with us for one day. We have looked at and fed the herd of reindeer as they do every day. Weroasted sausages and drank hot drinks in the snow while sitting on reindeer skins. And we ended the tour sitting in the kitchen, eating a traditional meal while enjoying each other's company. We look back on a fantastic day.

My teenage daughter and I visited this lovely family with small children and a few reindeer grazing the garden during the Christmas days. We spend a half day having fun by cooking together and making leather handcrafts which we were allowed to keep as souvenirs. Through our discussions we learned a lot about Sami history and current life. It is a most meaningful activity to do as it is a fantastic way to experience the connection between these amazing people and the beauty of northern Lapland. Inari proved to be the most quaint and quiet village we visited and yet offers all the typical activities like the more touristy places. We will be back soon. Reindeer Family and workshop in Inari is a bucket-list destination for sure.

I visited this amazing place twice (with help from Ruka adventures) and the experiences were the best from my trip to Finland. Between the two visits I lead a reindeer (well really it just followed the herder) up a hill, fed several moss, took in a sled ride and joined the morning feed! Even with poor weather, every moment was a joy. The Herders were very passionate about their Reindeer and of the wilderness and shared both information about the animals themselves as well as Thier own experiences. When I am able to get back to Finland, I am definitely returning. If you love animals and can get to this amazing place - do it!! Can't recommend it enough.

This was one of our highlights in Lapland - Janne was incredibly friendly and welcoming and gave us so much info about the reindeer, as well as Sami traditions and buildings. There was no snow so we did not book a sleigh ride, just the farm visit (17 euro per person) but it was definitely worth it! We got to meet and feed the beautiful reindeer, they are so gentle and soft!! Finished up with a hot drink and delicious Finnish cookies. Would love to come back in winter one day!!
