Bygdoy Peninsula

One of most delightful, romantic two-wheel rides in Oslo. Lush woods, park-like countryside, view of the sea, swimming areas, historic buildings and the royal cows are some of the sights to see along the way. Arrive from Aker Brygge via the 3-km cycle route along Frognerstranda to Hengesengveien, Bygdoy. Continue to Holsts vei - Rideveien - Huk - P.T. Mallingsvei - Langviksvei - Huk Aveny - Museumsveien - Wedels vei - Dronning Biancas vei Distance: 7 km Incline: insignificant Roadway: primarily fine gravel roads

Well, if you are in Oslo for more than a day or two, this is definitely a place to go ... there is the Viking Ship museum (with the real ships on display!) and the cultural heritage museum ( VERY worthwhile), as well as the Kontiki museum with the raft in all its glory (most interesting to kids between 6 and 12). You can get it all as part of the Oslo card (or whatever it's called now). Very good public transport there and back. You can even take a ferry one way (or both ways). Requires some resilience in terms of walking and going through the exhibits. Not recommended for old or tired people.

The Vantage Point Ekeberg

The Vantage Point: Valhallveien, Ekeberg, second highest curve Starting point: Konows gate, Gamlebyen Distance: 2.6 km Incline: 120 hm Roadway: asphalt Several fine vantage points are found within cycling distance from the centre of Oslo. The Valhall curve is probably the best vantage point in the city. It is also known as the place where Edvard Munch was inspired to paint his world-famous painting Scream. You will recognise the painting's landscape contours as you enjoy the view from Valhallveien. Recommended route (from Gamlebyen): from Oslo gate via Dyvekes vei, Konowsgt to Valhallveien, stop in the last tight curve below Ekeberg Camping.

After 4 km you arrive at Lunds gartneri, (garden centre), which also has a small zoo. Further on you pass the turning to Nes Herregard. Take to right at the signpost to Humlekjaer, and carry on past odegardskilen. Cross straight over at Humlekjaer cross roads, or take a sidetrip to Bevo Camping, which has a bathing beach, kiosk, and other facilities. Carry on through Thorsoskogen (Thorso Woods) until the landscape opens up at Thorso Herregard, (Manor farm). Carry on past Holm Church along the flates, past the farms at Grimstad and down to road 110 at Borge School. You will see Borge Church from here, on higher ground. Turn left, and take time out to look at the ancient dry walling on the left hand side of the road. The side road to Kjolberg a little further on takes you to one of the finest rock carving sites in Norway. Follow the main road on past Begbyhallen to the roundabout at Rakkestadsvingen. Turn left down oraveien, then turn right towards Gamlebyen.

Bike Trips Torpo Opheim

You can start the trip in the centre of Torpo, but it's quite steep until you reach the toll road. To avoid the climb, you can start at the toll bar in Opheim. The terrain is kinder from here, and you have more opportunities to choose different roads and trips. You can choose to take the trip to Liatopppen and down the mountainside through Liagardane (it is also possible to cycle further around Votndalen) or to Breiseth. Another opportunity is to cycle pass oknin to Volelie (possibly over Syningen and down to Torpo) Possible trips: - Opheim - Liatoppen - Liagardane - Torpo - Opheim - Breiseth - Tjukketjorr - Opheim - Around Volelie

Krakeroy - Here you will find the best cycle tracks in the municipality. Start in Smertulia the open park area about 500 m south of Krakeroy Bridge. take Solliveien past Krakeroy School and the Athletics Stadium. Turn left along cycle lane to Krakeroy Church and ride south to Lunde. The three old buildings here were once schools the eldest date from 1858. (Side road at Lunde to odegardsstua - a typical Krakeroy house from 1800`s). Continue southwards along the cycle lane, cross the main road at the signpost to Tangen, (open air swimming) Return the same way, but at Enhus take the main road back past Rod School and Ekheim, an impressive property from the timber baron`s era once owned by the Kjaers family. (Today, privat property). From Ekheim take the gravel road towards Rodsmyra bac to Solliveien.

The River Ride Jungletour

The River Ride: Jungle tour of the west side: Maerradalen Radium Hospital - Maerradalen - Hovseterskogen - Bogstad Farm Starting point: Radium Hospital, Ullern Easy arrival along the cycling route on Ring 3, from Smestad tram station (approx. 1.5 km) Distance: 6 km Incline: 100 m Roadway: mostly gravel, a bit rough in places. Between Ringveien and the heavily trafficked highway 168, you will find a dense, wonderful 'enchanted' forest situated in a little-known river valley. Maerradalen is a splendid nature experience all summer long and a fine bicycle ride. Leave Ringveien one and a half kilometres west of Smestad Station and cycle uphill towards Husby along Maerradalsbekke stream. To lengthen the ride a bit, head for the natural destination of Bogstad Farm, which you will reach after cycling under Highway 168, through the Hovseter fields and past Bogstad Camping. The road surface of the last kilometre before Bogstad Camping is slightly rough, but fully 'cyclable' for those on a mountain bike.
