Bought as a gift for my birthday, my husband and I attended this wonderful whole day, sustainable fish cooking lesson at Paul Webbe’s Fish Cafe in the lovely town of Rye. Taught by Paul himself we learned to shell and dress a whole crab, prepare and fillet a variety of fish including grey and red mullet, sole, monkfish, mackerel, gurnard and huss plus make an incredibly delicious bouillabaisse from scratch, blackberry ice cream to have with pear tatin and wash it all down with some lovely wine and hand made bread. I wasn’t particularly confident preparing and cooking fish before the course, but I am now! This was a wonderfully hands on day with just 6 of us plus Paul prepping, cooking and eating and Paul made sure everyone got involved and we all helped each other out, it was a really lovely group of people. The cooking tips for the fish but also the sauces, bread and dessert were excellent and I learned a lot. I feel this is incredibly good value, especially considering the top quality fish we prepared and ate and so I can recommend highly!

I have rented out this amazing place to do my private cooking events which were a huge success. The kitchen is so well organized and you will not have to worry about a thing. Just come with the ingredients and rest is all taken care of. The team is very warm and welcoming and the volunteers are very helpful. They make sure that you all have a great time and an unforgettable experience. If you are looking to do something different with a group of friends or an office do or a hen party or team-building exercise, I highly recommend this place as this is very unique and best part about all of this is all the profits go back into investing towards community welfare and that's a win-win.

I thoroughly enjoyed the smoking and preserving course. I have made more of the tomatoes and my husband wants more of the roasted/smoked ribs. The smoked trout was also fabulous. Ian (the tutor) was incredibly professional and helpful. He answers all questions knowledgeably and is a great teacher with excellently helpful demonstrations. Thank you Ian and Alex. I am looking forward to the next course.

I visited the Brighton Cookery School with my family for the afternoon as part of my Mums 60th birthday celebrations. We were welcomed with a friendly smile and a glass of prosecco before being shown how to make two desserts. We spent a couple of hours making them with help from our brilliant chef/host and then sat down to dinner whilst they baked. The instructor/chef made us steak with dauphinoise potatoes and green beans with an incredible jus. It was honestly the best steak I've ever head. We then finished off our desserts and were able to take them home with us. Such a brilliant afternoon and one I'd love to do again.

Perch Hill Farm Sarah Raven

This was my first visit to Perch Hill and despite cold and windy weather it was hugely enjoyable - so wonderful and helpful to see so many plants, most labelled, from the catalogue plus new trial plants, all growing really well. I was very much inspired. Lunch was delicious and served observing all the Covid safety measures. The shop was a little chaotic and crowded, despite signs on maximum numbers. It was a truly nurturing experience to visit this beautifully artistic garden.
