The service provided by Carlos is amazing. He took us to the countryside, the crossing of the Tonusco river was fun. I've done twice (looking for more), the second time we ask him to include a meal, delicious, great choice, we had "fiambre" (delicious typical dish wrapped in banana leaf). Thank you Carlos for making our trip so special.

Riding Colombia

Ridingcolombia offer multi days and one day ecotourism experiences. Riding Colombia is an ecotourism company headquartered in Bogota, the capital of Colombia. Our company is focused on providing private tailored horseback riding and hiking ecotourism experiences, in destinations one to three hours driving time from Bogota, in the regions of Cundinamarca and Boyaca. Our horseback rides are private tours designed for adultintermediate and advance riders. We will organize a tailor-made tour for you or your group. In order to organize the trip, we need a reservation and 50% of the total payment six days in advance (for one day tour). Our guests experience the real environment and culture of the regions we visit, getting the local flavor of the people of this country in a way that is simply not possible by car. We offer a completely customized tourism experience, tailored to the interests, physical fitness, and budget of our clients. Trips can be one day or several days and in addition to horseback riding, can be expanded to include either long or short one day hikes. As a Riding Colombia guest, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the Colombian horses, known as "Criollos". This breed is famous for their endurance capabilities and ability to live in harsh conditions. Criollos are intelligent, willing and sensible. These horses have a smoother stride, similar to what is internationally called a "gaited horse", so that the rider is more comfortable and feels less fatigue. Additionally, we generate a positive social impact to the provinces we visit because we contract local horses and other selected services with local providers, with whom we have an established business relationship for years. We have no defined plans, because we want to design a tailor made tourism experience, according to the preferences and availability of each client.

I highly recommend the one-day ride with Riding Colombia and Hernando. I chose Riding Colombia based on its ecotourism business model, and from reviews on TripAdvisor, which I discovered were all very accurate about the quality and description of the experience. The information on the website ridingcolombia.com is thorough and everything is exactly as advertised. The trip was unique, well-organized, and gave a great sampling of the countryside and life in the small mountain town of Zipacon, outside of Bogota. All communication was done by email, and Hernando was prompt and specific in his responses and directions. I was only going to be in Bogota for one day and was a bit stressed about all of the things that needed to fall into place to make the trip work. Hernando gave me clear options, explained policies and gave a timeline of steps I would need to take. Hernando picked me up promptly in an immaculately clean car and drove very safely, even calmly avoiding the many motorcycles that darted in and out of traffic from every direction! He is easy to talk to and has lots of knowledge about Colombia so you can learn all kinds of things. The horses were well-cared for, privately owned horses which were leased for the ride by Hernando. He made it clear that he is choosy about the horses and told me, “I don’t rent horses, I rent horses with names”, thus ensuring that he is familiar and comfortable with the horses he uses for his rides. I liked that the rides are for intermediate riders—-very unlike most trail rides where the horses go nose to tail and have no individuality. This was way more than simply moving from one place to another on a boring path while sitting on a horse! The horses enjoyed going fast but were responsive and always slowed or stopped when asked. They were very sure-footed and easily navigated the varied terrain. At the beginning of the ride, I was a bit nervous because lots of barking dogs come running out when you are riding, but the horses were unbothered, and I soon relaxed. It was my first time experiencing the trocha gait and it was easy to get used to. The saddles were nicely padded. There was lots of cantering, allowing us to cover a lot of ground and have an exhilarating ride. We saw homes, farms, huge flower production areas, and many different crops growing. We stopped to sample some fruit growing on a tree along our path, and stopped for anything that we discovered along the way. We rode mostly on dirt roads and along abandoned railroad tracks. After the ride, we drove to the town square of Zipacon, had a traditional lunch, visited some local shops and sampled some more local treats. Then Hernando graciously walked around the town with me until I finally ran out of energy. He truly made me feel like he was up for whatever I wanted to do or not do throughout the day. Hernando was accommodating and well-prepared for everything. He had even brought his wife’s chaps in case I wanted to wear them! He provided change for the larger Colombian bills that I had, and many other gestures to address small needs that came up during the day. The excursion was great value for the money: a private ride of more than three hours, safe round trip transportation directly from wherever you are staying in Bogota, coffee, beer, many snacks, a huge lunch, and a few other surprises for $165 USD (plus IVA (VAT) and tips). Tipping was not mandatory, but gently encouraged by Hernando for the young man who prepared the horses and rode with us to assist in various ways along the way. Both Hernando and his assistant earned their tips, and both were gracious and thankful to receive them. Trust the reviews, and go enjoy a unique and unforgettable day with Riding Colombia. Honestly, no complaints. Getting a private, personalized experience was amazing, and such a wonderful and unusual treat. I was totally immersed in what I was doing for 8 hours, and did not give a thought to anything else happening in my life or the world! I can only imagine what it would be like do the 6 day tour; I hope to do it someday soon. Riding Colombia, like many small businesses, needs our continued support during these uncertain times, so please go when you can. Thank you Hernando (and Cambiaso, my horse!) for a wonderful day!

We took a ride to Don Ellis's coffee plantation with our guide Oscar, what a character! Everything is espectacular lmao. My wife had very little horse riding experience and Oscar made sure she was safe and gave instruction while letting the other riders trot ahead and have a little more freedom.Over all very enjoyable for us both,i just wish we had done the river trek as it was longer and had more scenery from the experience of the other group! Oscar mostly speaks Spanish, but even with basic Spanish ourselves, it was great and he is quite funny.
