We stood a few days in Cusco and wanted to explore the area and landscapes around the city. We’ve heard that lake Humantay was supposed to be beautiful but also a 3 hours ride away from Cusco town. We could have taken a guided tour but wanted to do it individually because we’re really not into tours... So we decided to hire this taxi rental company since it had really good recommendations already. Plan was to get a taxi that picks us up at our hostel in Cusco, drive us to lake Humantay, wait a couple of hours there until we come back, and bring us back to our hostel in Cusco. Thus, we just contacted this company via WhatsApp which was easy and super fast to come an agreement. Everything went excellent! The rental company sent us Ramon, the friendliest driver ever! He was driving very safe and asked several times if we’re okay. He took care of our luggage and stopped a few times for everybody to go to restrooms. Then he waited for more than 4 hours for us to hike to the lake and come back. Besides he was super patient since we were driving with 2 more people that came back hours later from the lake. He even helped us to find them in order to go back to Cusco in time. All in all we’re more than satisfied with the service and would definitely recommend it. Also the rates are super cheap especially if you share the taxi with other people. Additionally, we would like to say: a big thank you to Ramon! Best regards, Vanessa and Benjamin

We LOVED this spot...it was the highlight of our trip and we are so glad that we did it! Highly recommend the experience! Our family did not do a guided tour so I can't speak to that. We were in our personal vehicle and drove from Huanuco to Huallay. The drive took about 3 hours and most of it was the Carretera Central, the heavily-trafficked 2-lane highway that links Lima to the jungle side of Peru. We went up to 14366 feet but dropped back down to about 13500ish when we got to Huallay. Huallay is a national park with an exorbitant s/2 (about 75 cents) entrance fee,. There is parking next to the entrance. You can also request a guide for the hikes that they offer...one is a 3-hour route and the other is 5 hours. Our group preferred to just take off on our own...the route is marked fairly clearly and honestly there is a lot of just open plain so it's not hard to get your bearings and head back to the entrance. It was about 40 degrees, I think...our jungle crew was not well equipped--we were in layers with a fleece, tennis shoes, and wool hats and gloves purchased in Huanuco--but we were not too cold. The ground is marshy, so be prepared for damp feet. We also took in thermoses with hot water for mate de coca, as well as snacks. The park itself is amazing! Our kids had a fantastic time climbing and exploring and hiking. Thankfully no one got altitude sickness although we were all developing headaches by the time we left about 4 hours later. We are so very glad that we went!

If you are looking for a cool and amazing experience, then I highly recommend Itinerant, their first hand knowledge of all the places that we visited is by a long shot far better than anything I've ever read about Cuzco. And if you get along with them, by the end of the trip they might invite you back to hang out with the locals for a full night of conversation, eating and drinking.

My father and I went to Cusco and wanted to go ziplining one day. We were a bit skeptical given that there were zero reviews on this product but it sounded much better than the alternative ziplining options so we decided to give it a try. The company is only a few months old so that is likely the reason for the lack of reviews. The guides were amazing and we felt incredibly safe the entire time. The ziplines are on top of a mountain overlooking the sacred valley. It is a breathtaking view and a lot of fun. Highly advise going if you have a few hours. We were picked up at 8am and were back at our hotel by 11:30am. Highly recommended!!

The hike was tiring but rewarding. Beautiful views. Took us about 3 hours roundtrip. Wear many layers. Our guide was friendly, not great English. The breakfast and lunch were okay, at the same restaurant. No toilet paper in the restroom. The roads were bumpy and the ride was uncomfortable. Our van broke down on the way back and we had to hop on another group’s van. They dropped us off at the town center rather than our hotel, so we had to walk back 12 min.

Been travelling a month in Peru, staying with local people whenever I could, but this tour with Cesar was the closest I have been to the culture and traditions of andean Peru. During our stayovers, we got to see and participate in the daily life of our hosts, their work, agriculture, beliefs, crafts, cuisine, and so on, all this amidst amazing landscapes. Cesar kept us off the beaten tracks, made us visit little known inca sites and discover breathtaking sceneries, while teaching us about local traditions, history and spirituality. The tour was custom-made, Cesar organised it following our interests and schedule, don't hesitate to ask! One of my favourite experiences in Peru, 100% recommended!

9. Horse Riding 2 Days Chinchero

Horse riding in cusco Gabriel's Ranch

Our tour begins by going to the ranch to meet our horses, then we will go to the Senqa mountain where we will have lunch, we will continue the road to Chinchero passing through the various neighboring towns, arriving at approximately 4:00 pm to the wonderful lagoon of Piuray. That night we will rest on the banks of the lagoon in the house of a villager, and we will know about their customs The second day we will visit the magnificent archaeological complex of Chinchero, initially it attracts attention to its platforms, which allows us to understand that it was a center of agricultural production in the Inca era, a warehouse was also built and the whole complex received a very irrigation system efficient. History tells us that, with the arrival of the Spaniards, Chinchero was set on fire in 1536 by Manco Inca, on his flight to Vilcabamba, with the aim of leaving nothing to the Spaniards. After the tour, we return to Cusco, arriving at approximately 4:30 PM. End of the tour

Inclusions: Lunch, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Transfer Hotel / Ranch /chinchero / Hotel, protective equipment, Professional bilingual guide (English - Spanish), bedrooms

Exclusions: tourist ticket to visit the archeological centers, extra costs

The weather was great. The ride was perfect, and so was the service (hotel pickup, visit to moon temple, picnic in the middle...). The horses were very well behaved, the rides were smooth and steady. And the view on the top of the mountains was fantastic. We even had an unexpected companion, the cute dog in P1, who follows us for quite a bit of distance. And we like how Gabriel thinks of his horses as his kids and is so gentle with them.
