Things to do in Cheltenham, England: The Best Spas & Wellness

June 23, 2021 Deane Carmody

Cheltenham was just your average, sleepy town until the discovery of a spring in 1716, after which it became Britain's most popular spa town. (Like Palm Springs without the casinos.) Local Cheltonians have a reputation for being wealthy and respectable, and a walk along the Promenade will give you a first-class view of their wonderful houses, shops and gardens. After taking in the waters at the Pittville Pump Room (great name for a spa), check out the Art Gallery and Museum to learn about the social history of Cheltenham.

I have been coming here for several years for a range of different treatments and every time I am warmly greeted by a member of staff, enjoy the fizz and always leave feeling rejuvenated. Today my facial treatment with Jess was outstanding in every way. Her highly professional, yet welcoming manner, ensured I felt relaxed from the outset, her skilful massage and delightful products lifted my spirits on a dull January day. Thank you so much, Val.

I treated my partner to the Arabian Rasul treatment for her birthday. We have been to Chapel Spa a number of times before but have not tried the Arabian Rasul so thought this would be an extra special treat for my partner. The treatment is £60 but when I booked I paid £45, I think it was a halloween deal so that was a bonus! I also had to rearrange the time on the day for our treatment and the lady on reception was very accommodating and changed our time for us. When we arrived we filled out health forms and could help ourselves to refreshments provided. We were escorted by our spa assistant, a young lady, to the changing rooms to don our robes and slippers (provided by the spa with a towel) and then to the Razul "temple". The Temple is an atmospheric tiled room with a presentation of oils and muds, a large walk in shower with two rain shower heads and a glass door leading to the steam room. The applying of oils, steaming, showering, scrubbing, mudding, steaming, showering, oiling, spraying might seem complicated when described by the spa staff member but there is a list on the wall to keep things in check. Before we began we had prosecco brought to us to enjoy our treatment with, water is also provided. Our assistant left us to enjoy our treatment alone. My partner and myself found the treatment very relaxing. With the rubbing of mud on each other, showering and exfoliating each other we found the whole experience very therapeutic (the steam room is very hot so you may want to check the temperature with your assistant before you begin) We were able to be at one with each other touching and enjoying each other. I would say this is not an erotic treatment but we found the whole experience able to enjoy each other's bodies and feel "connected". We were in the temple for just under an hour and we both agreed that we could very easily book a treatment for 2 hours as it was such a liberating and relaxing experience. The Arabian Rasul can be booked for hen parties and friends also, probably a maximum of 4 but I would say that that all depends on how "close" you are to your treatment buddies. You can also enjoy the spa on the day and there are a number of other treatments available on the website. We will definitely book a future treatment - two hours should do the trick! I recommend you give it a go and treat your partner, she/he will appreciate you more and maybe thank you afterwards.
