Things to do in Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District: The Best Gift & Specialty Shops

June 14, 2021 Timmy Ribble

The birthplace of the tango is, like the dance itself, captivating, seductive and bustling with excited energy. Atmospheric old neighborhoods are rife with romantic restaurants and thumping nightlife, and Buenos Aires' European heritage is evident in its architecture, boulevards and parks. Cafe Tortoni, the city's oldest bar, will transport you back to 1858, and the spectacular Teatro Colon impresses just as it did in 1908. Latin America's shopping capital offers the promise of premium retail therapy along its grand, wide boulevards.

Facon

One-of-a-kind pieces from independent designers and rural communities A do-good boutique, with high-end gifts and home goods. We love happening on a good shop—tell us about this one. This is a boutique that could only exist in Argentina. The shop, which resides in a Palermo Soho casona, features everything from pottery to rugs to leather bags, all made by local artists, artisans, and independent industrial designers. Best of all, it pulls double-duty as a wine tasting stop: there's a small wine shop in back to assist thirsty shoppers, especially those who are eager to try a curated selection of the vino-rich country’s best labels. The space was also recently remodeled, and introduced Salu, a chef’s kitchen that incorporates cooking classes into its repertoire.

Animana

At animaná, we work 100% with natural fibers from patagonia and the andes, bringing the culture and the traditional knitting techniques into alive products made with llama, alpaca, vicuña, guanaco, linen and more. We work with different small communities of artisans creating different products according to the abilities and techniques with the aim of building a new way of producing and consuming.

If you happen to be milling around the streets of Palermo in Buenos Aires, be sure to make a stop at Animana! The store itself is clean and crisp, with a real sophisticated style. Of course, with their sustainable initiatives, no other stores can quite compare to what they have to offer. I found myself inclined to try on this ocean blue linen set. Boy, am I happy that I did! Not only was it insanely comfortable, but it was stylish and made me feel like I was glowing. The one and only, Marcia, packaged it quite nicely for me, tucking some pamphlets in that go into further depth on the companies mission. I left the store feeling overwhelmed with appreciation for the level of customer service that they provided, and excited to wear my new outfit out and about.
