We did the sloth sanctuary as the last part of an all day tour. Johnny was our guide and walked us around the property and pointed out in many different sloths, frogs, birds and even toucans! He was so knowledgeable about all of the different species and it was very fun and interesting to chat with. We had such a great time here and loved being able to see a sloth in Costa Rica! Everybody should make a trip to the sloth sanctuary after or before going to Rio Celeste!

The scenery is amazing and this is a great stop-off between La Fortuna and Monteverde (which is how we did it). I would highly, highly recommend doing that. What I would not do is get a guide. Our guide was fine, and had a few interesting tidbits, but this price did not even include admission (which was a rude surprise when we got there - that should really be clearer in the description), making the total cost pretty expensive for what could have easily been a self-guided tour. (Note: the one exception is if it will be a busy day and you can’t get there early as they do limit the number of people who can enter the park at a time and we were told that the guides are given preference. On a weekday in late March, there was no issue with that).

Zender is enthusiastic guide, experienced in locating & identifying local flora and fauna, and describing their behaviors and interactions. He is kind & laid back, and I highly recommend him! We learned tons about the plants and animals in the park, and he pointed out a huge viper and tiny bats and bees in the middle of the day that we wouldnt have otherwise known were there. Thank you, Zender!

This was a highlight of our stay in Costa Rica. Johnny was our guide and was SO knowledgeable about every plant and animal. He is a true steward of the planet and cares greatly about the conservation of Costa Rica's natural habitats. My husband and I enjoyed learning about all the plants and animals. We saw five sloths, various birds, ants, dart frogs, spiders, termites, and various flora and fauna. The whole afternoon was so enjoyable. We saw this on TripAdvisor but did not look closely at the scheduled tours. I apologize now to Johnny for coming at an unscheduled time. When we arrived, Johnny was called and he came in a few minutes and never mentioned that this was not a scheduled time or acted upset. I would do this tour again without hesitation because I know I would see something new if I came at a different time. You see the animals in their real habitat - no cages. Wonderful!!
