Mount Beacon Incline Railway

Mount Beacon Park, located in the City of Beacon and Town of Fishkill, was created by Scenic Hudson. Its 234 acres were protected in 1995 and 1998, halting a proposed residential subdivision and preserving important remnants of the Mount Beacon Incline Railway. A kiosk at the park entry explains the mountain’s history, ecology and conservation. Scenic Hudson has worked tirelessly to protect the incline railway and its environs, which it owns. Thanks to their efforts, trails to the summit have been maintained and the surrounding natural beauty preserved; one trail leads up a stairway tracing a portion of the railway’s route. The Incline Society and Scenic Hudson share a goal of making this wonderful natural and historic area accessible to more people than ever before while continuing to preserve the mountain’s scenic beauty and critical wildlife habitat for future generations.
