Covering an area of 1374 km² the Jaragua National Park is the largest national park in the Dominican Republic and convinces with its variety of ecosystems. Both the Oviedo Lagoon as well as the beach of Bahia de las Aguilas can be found here. Drive along the scenic costal road via San Rafael, Paraiso and Los Patos until reaching the Oviedo Lagoon. Go on a trip to the iguana island and enjoy an amazing panoramic view from a scenic outpost. The tour continues with a drive through the national park heading to Cabo Rojo, where a boat awaits you. After a 15-minute ride with the boat you will be reaching the beautiful and isolated Bahía de las Águilas, which is considered to be the most beautiful beach in the country. Explore the amazing cloud forest in the eastern part of Sierra de Bahoruco. A four-wheel-drive takes you up to a scenic outpost, from where you have a wonderful view over the beaches of Paraiso and the river Nizaito. In the afternoon a short walk on the botanical trail, you reach Cachote. Here you meet locals still living in a traditional way, without electricity and light. Spend some time at the community before thereafter the way leads back to the valley, which is well known for its high quality production of oranges, coconuts and mangoes. The Lagoon consists of 24 islands of different sizes and vegetation and is considered to be the best place for aquatic bird observation on the island. Discover the beauty of the Oviedo lagoon on a boat ride through this unique ecosystem. Make a stop on one of the many islands, so called Iguana Island. Go on a hike across the small island through a somewhat barren landscape where cacti dominate the scenery. Once you arrive on a scenic outpost take some time to appreciate the beautiful view over the lagoon, the Caribbean Sea, the Jaragua national park and the mountains of Bahoruco.
