Golden palaces, floating markets, majestic porcelain-laid spires…you've never seen a capital city quite like Bangkok. Visit Pratunam or Siam Square for premium shopping, then unwind in the European-style gardens of Dusit. Thon Buri is home to the awesome Wat Arun temple, and over in Phra Nakhon, you’ll find the Wat Pho temple of the Reclining Buddha. Savor mango sticky rice at a food stall before taking in the gilded splendor of the Grand Palace.

Was the only participant for this wonderful class. Picked up on time and driven to the market for an intro into Thai ingredients. Then Som took me to the marvellous Cooking School. Wow! Fantastic surroundings and Chef Charles was very thorough and insightful. Pity I was the only one. I had to eat all 6 meals - all before lunch!!! Highly recommended. As a bonus the driver droped me off in the old town instead of my hotel, so i could visit the sights. Service with a smile. Awesome experience.

Bungsamran Fishing Park

Reviewed By MayMayC1030 - Hong Kong, China

This is the 3rd time I have been to Bungsamran. I come here once a year just to get that monster fighting itchiness off my finger and what can I say, Bungsamran fishing park never let me down. This time I even brought my mom and my 4 year old daughter with me. They have air-conditioned hut with washroom and a bed so you don’t need to worry, they can cool off and even sleep in the room when they get tired or watch you catching monsters Mekong Catfish. I always just rent one rod and takes turn with my husband because the fish just keeps coming and you definitely need time to revive before you fight another monster. Price is a bit pricey but I think it is all worth it. I arranged it with TFF Cat and the price comes to 7500B for one rod and inclusive with a gillie, net and bait (bread crumbs) and a air conditioned hut, you can fish from 9am to 8pm. If you haven’t tried catching Mekong catfish, you should definitely give this place a try!

This Thai cooking class was a highlight. We started by taking a tuk tuk to the local markets to buy the produce we needed fresh. Wandering around the market itself was an experience! Then back to the Maliwan cooking class, where we were taught how to cook four different dishes, two starters and two mains. The lesson was easy to follow and you could tweak your individual dishes to suit your taste, less chilli etc. We then got to sit and eat the fruits of our labour - delicious! We were presented with a certificate at the end. If you are a foodie, this is so worth doing!

I took my wife to Chef Leez's cooking class as part of her birthday and we really enjoyed learning about Thai cooking. Chef Leez and her team made it extremely streamlined so that we could learn and experience a lot in a relatively short amount of time. I am still wow'd by how much flavor we could create in such simple and quick dishes. My favorite parts were making fresh coconut cream and milk in the traditional way, scraping the old coconuts, soaking in water, and squeezing out the cream and milk. We also learned how to make a crazy delicious shrimp head paste that makes every soup taste insanely good. I also appreciated how Chef Leez taught us that all the inedible spices and flavor makers, like camphor lime leaves and lemon grass, should be removed by the cook before serving. This is never done in restaurants. Chef Leez is very knowledgeable and personable. The space is great and everyone gets a digital copy of her recipes to try at home.

Sompong Thai Cooking School

Reviewed By sailbigblue - Bangkok, Thailand

I recently took a class at the Sompong Thai Cooking School, and it was an amazing experience. (Full disclosure: I am a professional chef from the US and have worked at Michelin-star restaurants. I’ve also been an executive chef at my own restaurant so I understand the value of a quality teaching experience. I’m providing this review based on my real experience. I paid for my class as a regular student.) Owner and chef Koy was brilliant. She was kind and patient while being detailed and thorough. She invited my questions. She was always reminding me to relax and smile. Class started with a very fun and informative visit to the local market, where I learned about Thai herbs, spices, and vegetable varieties. She explained how to select the best ingredients and how to know when something was fresh or past its prime. I learned how coconut cream and milk is made. The market visit alone was worth the cost, as it allows you to shop the local fresh markets with confidence. Back at the school, the instruction room is large and well-organized, with new, clean, quality equipment and sharp knives. Each ingredient and recipe step is explained. Technique is emphasized, which allows students to extrapolate their learning to other dishes beyond the day’s lesson. Most importantly, you actually cook! Some schools are more like cooking demonstrations, where you watch the chef cook and then sample the dish. Others divide up the cooking jobs to create a group meal. Neither of those options will give you the ability to cook a meal at home. At Sompong, you’ll actually prep and cook the entire menu, learning each and every step so you can take the full knowledge of the dish home to your own kitchen. They’ll teach you the delicate balance of sweet, spicy, sour and salty that makes Thai food so delicious and satisfying. And there is no MSG! Their recipes derive flavor from real ingredients. At the end of the class, you’ll have 4-course meal to eat, and you’ll inevitably have extra to take home with you. In my opinion, one of the best things about Sompong is you will learn to make curry paste in the traditional way, with a mortar and pestle, pounding and grinding the ingredients into deliciousness. No more store-bought goo of questionable quality. Curry paste is a staple of the Thai household, and the ability to make it yourself is a major step toward being able to cook satisfying Thai food at home. (And yes, you can use your blender once you get home.) Koy explains how to substitute for vegetarians and for ingredients that may not be easily found in your home country. You’ll also receive a quality recipe book with information on the building blocks of Thai food and dozens of recipes. The recipes are written in English and are easy to follow. Beautiful, kind, talented people teaching delicious Thai recipes in a great setting. What a find! Book their courses with confidence. Don’t be fooled by other schools that promise more dishes or cheaper prices. Go to Sompong instead, and get the real experience of cooking Thai food from raw ingredients to final plating. I enjoyed the experience so much I booked another class for the next day. Thai food is amazing! Do yourself a favor and have some fun learning how to cook a few dishes at home. Wishing the Sompong crew continued success!

I've been a practitioner of muay thai for 5 years now and I made sure that if I ever visited Bangkok I hot a chance to train the art of the eight limbs. The gym was clean, open air, and the trainer was friendly. I learned so much and have been fine tuning my technique. Will definitely return some day.
