A must do in Heidelberg.Take the funicular railway to the castle and enjoy fantastic views over the city.A guided tour of the castle allows a much better insight the the history and the lives of nobility who lived there. If you have lunch at the castle cafe-the apple strudel and the rhubarb water are highly recommended.

Stunning gardens. Only €3.50 after 17:30. Beautiful mosque, bird garden and lakes. You need 3 hours to do it justice.

It is a beautiful palace and definitely well worth a visit. There are quite a few rooms one can visit and the staff are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. One should take time though and just look and enjoy looking through the rooms and the ceilings. Incredible. Also the surrounding gardens.

Due to COVID you have to buy tickets online for a certain timeslot and also have to reserve a parking spot which is free. You can park at P1 and walk from there to the castle which is a very steep walk including a lot of stairs of around 15 to 20 minutes or you can take the bus (for free) but not many people can get the bus at the same time due to COVID. Due to COVID there are also no guided tours but you can download the castle app which includes an audio guide (also in english). I prefer audio guides above guided tours because you can decide your own pace. There are several rooms you can enter, due to COVID there can be a short waiting line because there is an maximum amount of people allowed inside. You can't take pictures inside. The interior is absolutely astonishing. A lot of room are still used on occasion by the prince who owns the castle. The castle is also beautiful from the outside, it reminds me of Zweinstein from Harry Potter. You can also walk the bastion tour (on the castle walls) from which you have a beautiful view on the surrounding of the castle for miles and miles. We spend around 2 hours at the castle and were happy we had tickets at opening time (10 in the morning) because it wasn't crowded at that time. The castle also had a restaurant and there are lavatories (also at P1 parking).

A scenic walk to the Schloss castle - magnificent 360 degree views at the top. Make sure you visit the museum- it is one of the best I’ve visited - all about archeological history. Highly recommended.

If you visit the waterfall, it is worth taking a short walk from the top of the waterfall to the castle ruins. It is about 2 kilometers through the forest, with an ascent at the end. It is possible to reach for everyone. You do not need a good shape to reach it. The castle itself is not restored, but there are a few remains of the wall. Dreamlike, like in a picture book - an interesting castle ruin from the 11th century with an impressive view of Bad Urach and the surrounding area - mountains, forests, fields, valleys and the city with its old buildings When be there around on a nice day and you like nature - go for it!

The upper castle was built by the by Margrave Hermann II around the year 1100. Under Margrave Bernhard I of Baden (1372-1431) was the Gothic lower castle, which was extended by Margrave James I (1431-1453). It's a little walk from the parking lot, it's a slight uphill, but literally 5 minutes and you're in the castle. When we were there, no one else was, 8:00 PM on a Thursday evening. The restaurant at the base of the castle had people in it. We loved roaming around and imagining how it must have been in medieval times. Keep wandering too, you can go all the way to the top tower with unbelievably gorgeous views. This place was free and it was unforgettable. Lots of scaffolding and reconstruction work was happening when we were there in late June of 2019.

A real medieval castle, good value and at just 1 euro the guide gives a potted history on all 30+ rooms and the various artefacts within them, as you would expect for something this old not wheelchair friendly.
