Hacienda Xcanatun

We are excited to announce the re-opening of Hacienda Xcanatun in Merida on July 1st 2020. The property is now the newest member of the Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts family, operating under its upscale brand "Angsana". Located just 15 minutes away from downtown Merida, the hacienda is in a unique enclave where history and traditions come together. Hacienda Xcanatun by Angsana has recovered the its old 18th century grandeur, as one of the most iconic henequen (sisal) haciendas in the Yucatan. Transformed into a sophisticated hotel with 18 spacious and tastefully-appointed suites, all of them decorated with a fusion of local artworks and all the contemporary details necessary to make your stay comfortable, guests will enjoy being time-traveled to an era of splendor. Hacienda Xcanatun by Angsana is surrounded by four acres of private gardens, filled with lush vegetation and bright tropical flowers that highlight the beauty and lifestyle that made it one of the most important haciendas in the Yucatan. Its iconic “Casa de Piedra” restaurant is a traditional favorite among locals due to its delicious and sophisticated Yucatecan cuisine, developed with French techniques.

Nice place but don’t plan an event there.

Reviewed By JAXhum

Hacienda Xcanatun is beautiful, and the food is good. But in trying to plan an event there they dragged their feet for weeks. Never committing to anything and blatantly lying about other things. Jordani the event coordinator did not coordinate anything and seemed to be clueless or dishonest about just about everything. Even our third party planner said he was a nightmare to deal with and was unclear or dishonest about everything he spoke to us about. I think their plan was to string us along with a verbal quote that was reasonable and then when we had no other options, give us the real quote which was way more than verbally agreed upon. Super disappointed because we really liked the place.

Great price, located outside city center

Reviewed By RawFitness

Great price, the hotel it is located outside of the city center, not close to the attractions, would need to use Uber or have a car. The hotel was clean and had a fridge and is across the street from Costco and shopping center. There was a museum across the street. Front desk was kind enough to located a laundry mat that was 3 minutes away.

True Chichen Itza experience

First, if you seek the Ritz, this place is not for you. If you want a vibe that is quaint, authentic, friendly and affordable then keep reading. Having just stayed a week at the Marriott Cancun Resort, this place was much different, on the positive side. There are 48 rooms and probably only 10 were booked. I can tell you it was COVID related. The indoor and outdoor dining area is huge - you don't have 30+ tables with occupancy levels this low. They got hammered by COVID. That said, there is nice pool area to swim and lounge. Outdoor eating. The hotel has a kick back area with a nice pool table and couches. You can really relax here. Downside: poor internet. No coffee in room. Very small rooms - like plan on sleeping there and that is it. Tap water not recommended to drink. Spend your free time lounging outside. It is an 80 peso cab ride to Chichen Itza. Plenty of onsite parking for your rental car. Everyone is COVID aware and do their part to keep guests safe.

Es lindo pero muy incomodo

Reviewed By mariposamonarka

Nice Hotel

Reviewed By EdS172

We stayed here for a couple of days in December. It is located centrally not far from the main square. It was an easy walk from the bus station. The hotel is modern and obviously has been re-done. It is quite small and has a very attractive facade and lobby. There was no problem with check-in. The staff spoke very little English but we were able to made do quite nicely. The room was very clean, spacious, had good linens and towels and comfortable beds. There are hooks on the walls for hammocks. The bathroom was a good size and had lots of hot water. It is slighly away (but not far) from downtown. There are some chickens in the area so some noise started early. A continental breakfast is available with coffee , tea and toast. The rate was reasonable. The room was quiet and comfortable. There is a small dipping pool in the back but we did not try it. Check-out was smooth and easy. WIFI signal was strong and reliable. TV's in the rooms but we didn't have ours on. Would definately stay here again.

Worst food in my 6 weeks of traveling

Reviewed By Sabrina G

We ordered fish and shrimps. Both meals (fries and fish) was super cold and service bad. I told the waiter and his answer was just thats not my fault its the fault of the kitchen. I don't care who's fault it is but its a waiters job to keep the guest happy and apologies what he didn´t do at all. Really sad that I have to say that was my worst food in 6 weeks while traveling through Mexico and Belize.
