The best available Ranches to stay near Western Cape

May 14, 2023 Jacquiline Darosa

South Africa’s most popular tourist destination offers the urban thrills of Cape Town, its adjacent wine country and an aura of the rich political history of South Africa. The Overberg's perfect whale-watching perches provide excitement of a different nature. The Garden Route's lakes and forests and the Klein Karoo's ostrich-farming towns and vineyards present another take on the Cape. For extra kicks, try bungee jumping or cage-diving among Great Whites.

Outeniqua Moon Guest Farm

Outeniqua Moon Percheron Stud and Guest Farm is a farm with a difference. Situated at the foot of the Robinson Pass, we offer spectacular mountain views. Not only do our guests enjoy the luxurious Victorian-style self-catering units, they are also given the opportunity to interact with the majestic, regal heavy draft horses that we breed and protect on the farm. A visit includes an exciting cart ride over Fynbos-covered lands on the illustrious Vulcan that leaves our guests exhilarated and invigorated. It is a bird-watchers paradise, the African silence broken by the singing, twittering, chirping, tweeting and whistling of the huge variety of birds that share their land with us.

Wow, just Wow!

From the moment I walked in the door to hear owner Barry Meijer say, 'Sit down, let's chat.', I knew this would be a different experience! The hosts, Barry and Vivienne, are hospitality personified. They made our stay an absolute experience. Barry's passion for his cattle and regenerative farming was fascinating and enlightening. Great people. Our chalet was beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. It had all one needs for a self-catering weekend. And the view from the stoep of green pastures was wonderful. We also visited the Stone Cottage on the upper farm - a delightful away-from-it-all place on the plateau where the eland and cattle are likely to be your visitors. Meijers Rust's position in the Meiringspoort lends it the surreal geology of the area and magnificent views all over the farm. We have promised ourselves that there will be a next visit for hiking and biking!

This place is nothing short of magical... Surreal almost. In our opinion one of the most beautiful places of SA. Water of the lagoon right on your doorstep (or beach with low tide). Lovely rooms, very nice surrounding garden, perfectly equipped kitchen(s), BBQ's, etc. etc. And above all the staff and host are lovely. If you like playing golf there are 2 very nice courses within 10 minutes. Hope to visit again!!!
