Favorita Food&Wine Resort

A corner of paradise in the heart of Umbria, on the slopes of Assisi and not far from Perugia. Newly renovated, unique and elegant rooms, 2 Spa Suites for exclusive relaxation, an inn that speaks of tradition, passion, seasonality and territory, 500 wine labels to choose as travel companions and that touch of Emilian hospitality that makes everything special .

Surprisingly good food

This is a review of the restaurant, not the hotel. The location is uninspiring, the main advantage being that is is very convenient for Perugia airport, just down the road. However, once sitting at the back of the hotel in the restaurant it is very pleasant with nice views over the gardens. (The airport is very quiet with few flights so no noise problems). The chef is from Emilia Romagna rather than Umbria & so the menu reflects that. They serve unusual and interesting dishes, very generous portions, and a good wine list. It is not cheap though so needs to be a bit of a special occasion.

Santa Maria Degli Ancillotti

Above all, Santa Maria degli Ancillotti is suited to couples who would like to be in a friendly family-run hotel where service is of the utmost importance. Santa Maria degli Ancillotti is set in 4 hectares of parkland, protected by trees and well-tended hedges. The buildings, which date back to 1179, were renovated by the owner with the aim of creating a peaceful retreat for guests seeking privacy and tranquility. There are 7 spacious suites fully renovated in April 2014, with every comfort: individually controlled air conditioning and heating, satellite TV, direct line telephone, free mini-bar, safe, kettle and hairdryer, beach towel for the swimming pool, and an external area with table and chairs. Originally planned as apartments, the spaces are now occupied by suites which comprise a double room with double bed or two twin beds depending on your requirements, and a spacious wardrobe. The living room is large and bright with a sofa which quickly transforms into two single beds. The bathroom has a large and modern shower.

... and it is called Santa Maria Degli Ancillotti. This was our 4th stay in Santa Maria Degli Ancillotti, and again a fantastic experience. The beautiful location, spacious and perfectly cleaned rooms (with good wifi and airconditioning !), large swimming pool with comfortable sunbeds and large umbrellas and a large garden full of olive trees create a relaxing atmosphere where you really feel at home. All of this perfectly combined with high quality service and attention to detail. And last but not least ... dinner ! Fresh quality ingredients, prepared with passion and love (thank you again Inez, Susie and "mammie" !!!) and served by Alessio with a big smile. What else would one want ? Of course, a good bottle of wine. No problem. The wine list has more than enough possibilities. A unique combination which so far we have not found anywhere else, making Santa Maria Degli Ancillotti heaven on earth.

Tenuta Del Perugino Agriturismo

The farm "Tenuta del Perugino" is situated in the green heart of Italy, Umbria, precisely in Passaggio Di Bettona, only 15km from Perugia and close to many of the most characteristic art cities of the region, such as Assisi, Spello, Spoleto, Todi and Gubbio. The farm extends to around 40 hectares, 10ha of which are olives and vineyards, with the rest of the land being cultivated as crops. The recently restored farmhouse is tastefully furnished, down to the last detail, throughout. It is enhanced by spectacular views of Perugia through to Spoleto. The view of Assisi from the windows, is made even more spectacular by the changing skyline throughout the day. Our guests have a choice of various types of room, all of which are en-suite. Peace and quiet are the main ingredients that will make for an unforgettable stay here in the unspoilt green countryside of this beautiful Umbrian landscape. Within the surrounding grounds, our infinity salt water pool, with Jacuzzi ,will create a magical atmosphere, during the warm summer evenings. Home produced wine and olive oil is used in our restaurant and can also be bought on site, in our shop. On the farm we have an area dedicated specifically to small farm animals.

Great location near Perugia

This place was a real find ! Great restaurant, with clean and quiet pool (that our kids made less so). Kids are welcome here with gardens filled with playground equipment as much as Olive bushes. Many of the guests when we visited were Italian, so food menus and staff were very much geared to this. However, English speaking staff were available if needed, we just chose to practice our very basic Italian. Food quality was fantastic for us all. Kids meals were smaller or half portions of adult meals, rather than the normal sausage, pizza, pasta and tomato etc etc. House wine measures by the glass were very generous (hic) and also good quality local producers.

Perfect Holiday

What a lovely place, with a warm welcome. The room was fresh and clean. Plenty of towels and spotless bed linen. Kitchenette adequate for producing basic meals, once again it was very clean. as was the lovely pool. Not much english spoken (why should they in Italy) however all the staff were very willing to help us. Our stay was bed and breakfast, the views of the mountains and Asissi were a spectacular back drop whilst eating our first meal of the day. Sylvianna and all of her staff could not have worked harder to keep Il Casale di Monica the beautiful place that it is. We visited Asissi, Spello and Lago Trasimeno all amazing places with magnificent views. Thank you all for making our holiday so memorable, by being such perfect hosts. Barbara & Scott

Incredible staff, outstanding food; perfect hotel for friends, families, and couples who want to relax, eat, and explore

Truly one of the best trips I've ever been on and I owe it to the owner of this hotel. He, his father, and their staff are the most authentic people you will meet. They go above and beyond to make sure your stay is as welcoming and inviting as possible. This hotel doesn't have a fitness center, spa, or those types of amenities you might come to expect. The rooms are on the smaller side if you're looking for space, however the rooms are very clean, tidy, and staff is super friendly. Rooms have everything you expect. Air conditioning is powerful and takes care of those very hot days and nights. Wifi is free and better than some hotel Wifi. Good signal. Plus, you're not there to spend time in your room anyway. You're going to be spending it in beautiful Assisi only a mere 4 minute drive away. Or out exploring the Umbrian countryside and visiting small towns along the way like Spello a few kilometers from the hotel. Or at the hotel pool listening to great music, enjoying a refreshing beverage, and chatting up the owner and/or his father bartending at the pool bar. Or you'll be in the hotel dining room for lunch and dinner eating one of the best meals you will have on your trip. You get the point. Speaking of the food. The food served at the hotel was the best food I had in my time in Umbria. I had truly authentic, delicious, and memorable food in Assisi and Spello, however none of those meals were as delcision and memorable as the food the hotel serves. For me, the food served at lunch and dinner was the best I've had in Italy. And I've been to Italy 8 or 9 times now in the past 5 years. The owner told us he only has two chefs and they get to decide what two meals they want to serve for lunch and dinner. It makes it easy to decide and what you get served is the food you dream about eating in Italy. Warning, you will be very full. The portion size for these courses are essentially full meals. You will eat a lot and you will be happy. FYI, get the tiramisu and thank yourself later. Wine, 1st course, wine, 2nd course, wine, dessert, digestivo. Rinse and repeat. The pool is wonderful and where everyone seems to congregate. Even those not staying at the hotel, which you might think of as a bad thing, however it added to the fantastic vibe this hotel has. Even if you don't stay at this hotel, you can still visit the pool. I believe the early bird/happy hour price is 7 euros to gain access and it also gets you a drink! All other times it's 10 euros plus a drink. Either way, a great deal. They have plenty of pool chairs in case the pool is crowded so don't worry too much about getting to the pool early. The pool is bigger than you would think and is great for adults, kids, and families. It's a great mix. This hotel is the perfect location for those who want to stay a little off the beaten path, however close enough to see the path. Rent a car or scooter and explore the surrounding area. The location could not be any better. It's actually directly across the street from the monestary where St. Francis of Assisi lived. Church isn't that old, however they built around the place where St. Francis lived and it stands as the first thing you see when you enter the church. Very cool. All in all, it's the owner, his father, and their staff that really make this hotel what it is. They're authentic people who have your best interests in mind and go out of their way to make your trip a memorable one. From recommendations, to tips, to information and stories about the hotel and surrounding area, you're in great hands. The hotel itself serves its purpose admirably. It's a 3 star hotel that punches well above it's weight class. The value you get here goes so much farther than you will realize. You just have to experience it. This is the perfect hotel for friends Even if you decide this hotel doesn't meet all your needs, I implore you to at least visit to enjoy the pool or enjoy a great Italian meal and dessert. Cheers to Michele, Mauricio, and the La Padronale del Rivo staff! You have earned yourself another new, loyal customer. I am very grateful for your hospitality!

My family and I stayed here as we had a wedding to attend around 30mins drive away. We had 1 studio and 1 2 bed cottage, these both exceeded expectations, rustic and homely with all the amenities on hand including a fan. The pool area was well maintained with a refreshing temperature, plenty of loungers and umbrellas to stay in the shade if you wish. Breakfast was beautiful, continental, home made where possible. The dinner was simply amazing fresh local produce plenty of starters and antipasti, full dinner plates and yummy home made puddings, the local wine from the vineyard nearby went down a treat. Roberto and Beatrice were extremely welcoming and helpful, nothing was 2 much to ask. This was our first time in italy it has lived up to all expectations. We will be back in the near future.
