The best available Lodges to stay near Scottish Highlands

April 24, 2023 Vergie Nakamoto

The moody, romantic Scottish Highlands start at Loch Lomond just north of Glasgow. Comprising a slew of mountain ranges, this sparsely populated land is best seen by train on the West Highland Line. Mountains, lochs, bright heather and rhododendrons give way to white sand beaches and rugged coves as the train nears Mallaig. For a more active take on the region, hike the West Highland Way or visit the Trossachs National Park. Ben Nevis, a popular climbing spot, looms over the town of Fort William.

Hidden gem

The hotel is in a beautiful secluded spot by the Loch side. Our stay was made even better by the fabulous weather. We enjoyed using the spa as the views from the outdoor hot tub were amazing. After a delicious dinner it was only surpassed by breakfast by the Loch the following morning.

Lovely friendly clean site

We stayed here for 2 night and couldn't fault it. Site was clean and the facilities spotless. The site has a good size playpark and seems to have resident ducks and rabbits running about which was nice to see. Is easy walking distance into the town. We will be back.

Good hotel in a quiet part of the village

Reviewed By WickersWorld50

Hans gave us good welcome and we had a good sized room overlooking the garden. We arrived by train and the station is just a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. There was lots of choice for a hot breakfast and proper bread for toast. There was a open fire in the communal lounge which was good to warm in the evening up after being in the fresh air all day. It was nice and quiet no noise from traffic. There is a good restaurant next door and a fish & chip shop next to that.

Windhaven Camping and B&B

This is a family run business which we took over in 2018. We moved up from Manchester/Cheshire and haven't looked back since. The Snack/Gift shop, Campsite and B&B are run by Clare, Phil and Aunty Babs. We have three cozy and comfortable rooms, all with ensuite toilet and shower. All newly decorated and refurbished. Coffee/Tea making facilities are also available in the communal lounge for the small twin and double rooms. The large twin has its own tea & coffee making facilities, but no lounge. We have over 2.5 acres of well kept grass fields for tents, campervans and motorhomes, all with a fantastic view of Brough Bay, The Pentland Firth and the Orkney Isles. It is a fantastic spot for viewing the Northern Lights in the winter. We are on the NC500, 3 miles from Dunnet Head Light House.

Great little cafe with amazing sandwhiches.

Reviewed By biglee33

We stopped off here as part of the NC500 and we needed a cup of tea as the weather wasn't great. The young man working was very helpful in advising us to park our parks in the car park due to big trucks passing. He also told us all the sandwiches on offer and the traditional cakes etc and even threw in some Highlands trivia. Hes a keeper for you guys. Sandwhiches were super soft and tasty, and a good cuppa.

Had a one night stay here. Chalet was great, really well equipped and very clean. Location is good for local pub / shop. We stayed in one of the chalets that had an adjoined chalet, sound proofing could be improved as you can hear everything that is going on next door through the thin walls. Wifi was very handy to have and was reliable too.

Glamping Pods

Our cozy glamping pods provide a comfortable way to enjoy the great outdoors by incorporating a few little luxuries such as electric sockets for your hairdryers/chargers, free wifi, TV microwave and fridge. Ideally located in the small village of Kinlochleven just 7 miles from Glencoe. They are insulated, heated by electric heaters/fans and have midge screens on windows. We have 3 sizes of pods available: mini lodge, micro lodge or mega lodge. With the mini lodge sleeping 2 in single beds and the micro and mega lodges sleeping up to 4 in 2 single and 1 double bed. Hot showers and toilets are available in our communal shower block and externally there are drying rooms, pot wash area and picnic area for all guests use. The site is also dog friendly but there is a charge of £10 per dog if staying in a glamping pod.

I wasn't sure what to make of these. The photos make them look bigger than they are. They have access to a separate toilet area and shower block which is clean but small. There are only two toilet cubicles in the gents and three in the ladies'. They have a heater, microwave and fridge but there is very little space for bags or clothes. The location has the river on one side but a car park and tents on the other side. If you go ask for a pod facing the river. There is no glamour in this glamping.
