Amazing views

Such a great first night in a safari Tented Camp. We stayed in Tented Lodge number 24 and the views over Lake Manyara were simply stunning. Staff were friendly also and not too far a drive from the park entrance. I would like to see this place with more guests as sadly we were the only ones staying but enjoyed our time there.

Peaceful and friendly

Placed near to the Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and only a couple of hours from Arusha makes it an idea stopover. With its little pool, friendly staff and clean rooms, it is very very comfortable, The rooms and showers are a bit tired and dated, but spotlessly clean. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, and as regular visitor it feels like home from home.

Come for the view, stay for the accomodation

We stayed here as Tour Operator booked it. I was sceptical when we had to go for what seemed a long distance through maasai territory without nothing else readily seen. The payoff was worth it - the view of the Great Rift and Lake Manyara is suberb. The big house that we stayed in (6 of us) had its own pool and kitchen/dining/relax area (toghether with up to 5 rooms). I loved the beds (king-size mattress into a concrete shell which allowed for space to leave things on and increased perceived size/luxury). I would recommend to anybody.

Wellworth Lake Manyara Kilimamoja Lodge

Nestled on the rim of the great African Rift Valley with stunning views over Lake Manyara, Mount Meru and on a clear day, Mount Kilimanjaro. The lodge is set on pristine lush green gardens and local vegetation with over 130 species of birds.

Not as it first seems.

This was one of three lodges we stayed in during our time in Tanzania and probably the poorest of the three. Whilst on entering you could be taken in by the grandeur the food and lack of basics like free water let it down. Dinner was served with declared allergic ingredients and other courses without declared ingredients, croutons for one and when mentioned was met with a nervous laugh. The staff we came in contact with could not have been more helpful but basics really need to be met by management.

Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge

Taking as its muse the glorious bird life of the fabulously soda-encrusted and pink flamingo-fringed...Lake Manyara, the swooping curves of this elegantly evocative lodge defy description. As do the soaring views over the Great Rift Valley, the rose-gold sunsets over the Mto Wa Mbu escarpment and the utterly unique tree climbing Lake Manyara lions.

Attentive and friendly staff, great relaxing atmosphere. We drove from Kenya had a wonderful welcome. The views from our room was breathtaking, nature at its best. The sounds of singing birds was my alarm in the morning- wonderful. I would visit again next year. Everyone great, Msafiri and Andrew were exceptionally caring! Asanteni sana!

After somewhat of a fraught - very fraught! few hours trying to locate the hotel we were booked into, we eventually found it after visiting various venues along the way, including the Serena Lake Manyara Safari Lodge The trouble was that there are far too many hotels in the area with the Manyara lead word - namely ‘Manyara wildlife lodge, Manyara safari lodge , Manyara wildlife safari camp, etc... so so confusing! Our booking was confirmed as Manyara Lodge when it was actually Manyara Hotel, a simple mistake I guess.. Anyway... when we eventually arrived at our destination we were all hot and bothered and thank goodness for some friendly smiling faces of the welcoming staff. I was so tired and I have to confess that I can’t remember if we were offered a cold welcome drink.. . but chances are that we were! So Asante Sana anyway.. Out of the 100 bedrooms this conference venue has to offer, only a few were actually booked and at that stage I didn’t know exactly how many... I enquired if a room had been reserved for our driver/guide to which I was informed that drivers would “normally stay in the village” which we drove through in order to get to the hotel. At this point I have to say that I wasn’t at all impressed by the answer I’d just received, plus I didn’t like the look whatsoever of what we had just driven through to get to the hotel. I feel dreadfully sorry that these poor poor people have to live in such dire and dreadful conditions, it’s quite outrageous that they don’t receive any help in order to obtain more comfortable surroundings and healthy living conditions ** I had read various previous reviews on TA about driver accommodation in safari venues and that some were ‘acceptable’ some ‘just about’ acceptable, some ‘not at all’ acceptable and some just downright disgusting... and it wasn’t until I got home that I read ALL the reviews on this particular venue - and I was totally horrified to read a negative review -albeit dated November 2013- that the village accommodation (if you can call it that!) was abominable!! ** As it happened , the hotel had 98 rooms empty and there wasn’t a remotest chance that any of these would be sold to passing chance customers. Nobody would ever be “just” passing by! I then suggested with the greatest respect - and considering the stress we had all endured in trying to locate the venue, that Thomas, our Maasai driver and guide, should at the very least, be offered a room for the night. I reiterated the fact that no “chance” customers would be forthcoming, and that if a room -any room- wasn’t made available that we would leave and find alternative accommodation. I wasn’t much in the mood for any more stress, and mentioned that we, all three of us, were very much a team! I was told that they would have to make a phone call, but in the meantime could they show us up to our room.? I declined the offer until such time I knew the outcome of that telephone call. However not many minutes later I was informed that it had been decided by the powers to be, that Thomas would be given a room. ... A wise decision.. He was given a carbon copy of our room complete with a clean & comfortable bed, and a nice bathroom. We received impeccable service during our stay and especially over dinner, all the waiting staff were super helpful, accommodating and professional on all levels. I wasn’t overly hungry but the chef went out of his way to give Thomas double helpings of the beef stew that was on the menu. ? The following morning after we all had a good night’s sleep and at breakfast I was told that our safari vehicle had been washed & cleaned.... Thank you !! Breakfast was very nice, especially the fried eggs and toast.. and the dear waiter ( An elderly gentleman ) was a sweet and very helpful person, he couldn’t do enough to help us. Thank you!! We all enjoyed our stay, but from my personal perspective the rooms were fine, albeit a little dated - but clean & comfortable. The bathroom can do with some brighter lighting, and perhaps a non slip mat in the bath as it is quite difficult to get out of a very high bathtub after having had a shower without slipping So... all in all... would we come back if in Manyara again? Yes, I think we would... and thank you all for your hospitality. Finally.... On leaving the hotel after breakfast whilst saying our goodbyes I completely forgot to mention that Maasai Thomas is not “just” a driver/guide - but that he is also a director of the company that made the booking
