Wedding at Inn on the lake.

Reviewed By 921StevenB

My husband and I, 3 years ago went on a search for a scenic venue to get married. We had our show around with the manager Gary and was immediately sold. Nothing else would compare to this idyllic venue. Several wedding meetings later, our wedding coordinators Kerrie, Tom and Jon organised the most impressive and perfect day of our lives. Truly professional in every way, warm friendly and accomodating, but they also had the courage to stand up to suppliers who would attempt to change details not in our best interest. They are truly like family to us and for whoever is currently reading this, I promise you choosing them will be the best decision of your life, even more so than your new spouse. ? Thank you Inn on the Lake. Tom and Steve

Can’t understand some of the negative comments and poor reviews as I found this hotel very nice and relaxing.

Rated this hotel 4 out of 5 as there is no option for half stars. Very good on al ways just not quite a 5. Had the soap dispensers in the room have been topped up and the wood slightly better I would have have 5 for the visit. I found the staff to be very friendly and welcoming on all areas. restaurant staff were very friendly as couldn’t do enough for us. Service was very efficient and the break fast was amazing. Best black pudding I have ever had. The grounds of the hotel are superb and kept in very good order with good seating facilities. Hotel was very clean in all areas including the rooms. Room was of adequate size and offered everything you would expect during your visit. Like I said in title, I can’t understand why there are so many low reviews and negative feedback as I couldn’t really fault the place and would be more than willing to return. For those winging it’s old fashioned, try premier inn or Hilton next time as these places are meant to look old and quirky. Well done to all the staff, you do an amazing job. Thank you

My holiday to the lakes

Reviewed By vstock679958

Planned to visit the Lake district and move daily to other lakes and areas returning to a base each day. This did not pan out as expected as we found the roads too busy and narrow for extensive travels and so decided to remain in Glenridding and hike out as often as possible. James the "Jack of all Trades"assisted us greatly with his knowledge and professional service. His tireless efforts to make us comfortable are greatly appreciated. The staff shortage at this lovely old hotel is going to impact the commercial success soon unless changes are made.

Unwelcoming and unfriendly.

Reviewed By Haxby-Rhino

Over the course of our short family break in Pooley Bridge, we tried to get in to The Crown twice on consecutive days. Both times we were met at the door with a barracade. The pub looked empty, but was informed by the man at the door in a blunt and rather rude tone that they couldn't accommodate us for a drink and that food was about to stop - this was at 5pm. He wasn't interested in trying to explain why we couldn't come in, nor any shred of apologetic tone. So we lleft feeling very unwelcome. In contrast, the staff over the road at the Pooley Bridge Inn were very friendly, accommodating and efficient and we stayed there a good few hours.

Finally got to stay here .... Good for the price

Reviewed By BuccaneerDave

Having enjoyed many beers in the beer garden over the years we were finally able to stay at The Patterdale. We've stayed at at least 4 other properties in Patterdale but alas all were full this time. It took me a while to figure out how to book as they had a 4 day minimum stay including half board. A bit unfamiliar to us Canadians. The price was such a deal that we booked for the 4 nights knowing that we would only be staying 3 as we needed to return to London. Overall the property is fine. Needs a make over including replacing some of the beds (at least the rooms we were in), replacing the mouldy caulking and touching up the paint, wall paper and some of the furniture. It's not bad but just a bit too much 'character'. For our group, and no disrespect intended, it felt a little like an assisted living facility with the added bonus of getting to decide who you had dinner with. Very organized meal times, decent menu with limited choices, quick service to turn the table over and just a hint of an institutional feel. We spoke with many who said they thoroughly enjoyed it and the food was good (but their Keswick property is better). This was an unfamiliar style of staying in a hotel and albeit it was a bit odd to us it was a good experience and the room and food was great for the price we paid. I absolutely loved that there were no dogs. Yes I get that most people love dogs. I don't. Part of the minority that thinks dogs are an invasive species. And I don't always enjoy sitting in a restaurant with them or having them near me while I'm enjoying a pint. And I am allergic to most dog dander so a night off of feeling like crap while I'm eating, drinking or sleeping is a bonus. For that reason alone I think I would consider staying here again. And the beer garden is still awesome. Overall we enjoyed this unique, to us, experience. Thank you.

Perfect Weekend

Friendly, welcoming staff. Comfortable beds. Large clean dorm rooms which were all close to bathrooms. Nice hot shower (sometimes took a while for the hot water to kick in). Incredible views from the room. The self-catering kitchen was well-equipped with multiple large fridges and a lot of space to store dry food. Stunning location, only a 20-30 minute walk from Glenridding. Close to a coupe of pubs. Perfect location to walk Helvellyn and many other walking routes. I ate one meal at the hostel, which was ok. The communal area was cosy and offered a lot of seating. Many books and board games to chose from.

Too long to wait

Reviewed By Safari05484375350

We had a table booked for 1pm for 7 guests (1was a child in high chair) We arrived early aprix 12:40 but as the inn had not been open that long we thought it was not a problem. The restaurant and outside was filling up but not mega. Drinks ordered and then waited at least 20 mins on top for someone to take our food order. We ordered and then waited over 45mins for starters. We asked where they were and was told "I've just put your order to the top of the pile" after that long!! Starters arrived but we asked for chilli nachos but got chilli fries ...We weren't prepared to ask and get changed after waiting so long! Starters eaten and table partly cleared...more drinks ordered. Again over 40 mins we asked where our mains were. Staff apologies and told be about 10-15 mins. Food arrived. Lamb kofta over cooked and tough, chicken on the hot sandwich was like rubber. Sunday roast the meat was nit of a good quality, vegetables bland and the yorkshire pudding resembled expanding foan and went to powder when cut! Burgers were tasty and so was the fries and side orders. The drinks also took a long time and we had to catch people as they were passing. If its table service then make sure the staff are attentive! Management was very apologetic for the wait.. and we took up the discount offer. If she had not suggested one I would have stated about the wait and quality of food. It is a shame. The pub is lovely with the decor and a good selection of food and drinks. I appreciate hospialty industries have taken a beating but if you have a big restaurant, large outdoor areas then make sure your kitchen can can cope and you have enough waiting on staff and they are attentive. In summertime I would expect a long wait!!

Very cosy, beautiful location

Reviewed By Alex W

So me and my partner stayed here the first weekend of April 2022. First of all the location is beautiful. This is situation very close to patterdale and the kirkstone pass and has a wide array of mountains surrounding (if mountain climbing is your thing!). There is the smallest lake in the lakes very close by (the brotherswater lake). We stayed in the Inn itself which is in small cozy building beside the road. It is situated within the Sykes holiday park which is also has camping and caravanning facilities alongside bunkhouses and a cottage - all seemed a good layout with good accommodation choices! The inn room - The cleanliness of the rooms was really good, the beds were very comfy. The bathrooms were very small with literally very little room to move around. I wouldn't say this is a problem as such but if you prefer lots of room in a bathroom then you have little space to manoeuvre. My only criticism of the hotel rooms within the inn is that the soundproof between other rooms is not the best. I could hear other guests snoring through the walls and hear when other guests had their TV's on - not good if your are a light sleeper. Staff - Very friendly. Upon check-in the staff in the shop helped us pay the balance as we arrived very early and we had some problems with paying the balance for the first night as my bank decided to reject paying which put our weekend stay under threat. The guys in the shop here were on hand to sort this out and reassure us which was brilliant. Upon check-in itself, the staff in the inn were amazing and so friendly, they offered to carry our bags from our car to the room and ensured we had everything we needed to kick start our weekend. We had a problem with our heating and after reporting they were straight on it to fix the problem! Very good also in the bar/resturaunt of the inn and were on it! - very good staff. Food & Drink - Wow some beautiful food. For the 2 nights we were there me and my partner did the 3 courses, I had some smoke trout and nachos which were amazing. Mains - I recommend the fish and chips and the Cumberland sausage and mash is a must. Both nights had a chocolate cheesecake which was lovely. All the food was pub food cooked to the finest of standards. If you are staying at the inn then bed and breakfast is included with a beautifully cooked to order full English. Drink wise - if real ale is your thing then your in luck, some love local ales. Overall I would say this place was spot on and I will be returning again!
