Excellent Wedding Venue!

Reviewed By rachelaC7071NM

We recently got married at The Crown and cannot recommend it enough!!! David was so helpful in the planning stages, getting all the details just right for us and catering for allergies within the group. Our guests thought the food was delicious. They were also blown away by the venue, it was immaculately clean and the rooms were stunning. We also received incredible service on the lead up and on the day itself, notably by Alison and Naomi who really went the extra mile to make sure us and our guests felt so welcome. Already looking forward to returning for our Anniversary!!!

Shabby Room: Overpriced

Reviewed By Michael S

The standard of accommodation was very poor. The walls were marked, the carpet was stained, there was paint flaking off the window frames, neither of the sash windows would stay open, and the shower room was tiny. Most definitely not worth £160 a night. When I complained I was granted an interview with the General Manager, who agreed with my observations and undertook to provide a refund (I had been obliged to pay the full amount at check-in). However, no refund has been forthcoming and when I emailed him he didn't bother to reply.

The Bull & Swan

Once upon a time there was a drinking club at Burghley House. It was founded by The 5th Earl of Exeter in 1684 and it was called The Honourable Order of Little Bedlam. It had an eclectic bunch of members: The Baptist Earl of Gainsborough was known as Greyhound, The Hon Charles Bertie was The Stag and The Earl of Denbigh was Tyger amongst other nefarious characters. They would have drunk locally brewed ales, feasted on Burghley Estate and other local produce and created total bedlam. Things have a habit of coming round and we are delighted to invite you to dine on our local produce, sup our fine ales and obviously behave very, very well!

Recent one night stay room 5 very poor for price. room very tired and a disappointment after seeing online photos. one small opening window inadequate for a hot room and when open loud traffic noise as at the front of the hotel. Room was above the bar. Glad we only had one night booked. Staff very friendly and a good cooked breakfast was the only benefit.

Garden Room Anniversary meal

My wife and I have been to The George Hotel on previous anniversaries, but not since pre-Covid, so we were unsure if the hotel was still as good. Thankfully we weren’t disappointed. If you have never been to the George, worth checking their website as this is a very special coaching Inn with loads of character and a very comprehensive menu’s. We bothstarted our meal with a glass of Taittinger Rose champagne which was excellent . I was impressed that they had 5 different champagnes that you could order by the glass. We shared a seafood platter (potted shrimps, smoked salmon, mussels, smoked mackerel pate and whitebait). The quality was excellent…the seafood is always excellent. Then we both had wonderful lamb cutlets with Jersey new potatoes and other sides that were all perfect. They were cooked on charcoal barbecue which added so much flavour. We shared a sticky toffee pudding which was very good , I mentioned we we celebrating our anniversary at the reception so was very pleasantly surprised that they brought out a mini strawberry cream cake with firework style candle. All closed off with lovely pot of coffee and hot milk. The experience was great, prices have gone up a bit since we last visited (but post Covid the world has changed) but it wasn’t a case of style over substance. We look forward to returning soon.

Just stayed here for 3 nights. The owner showed us to our room which was spacious and clean. Sadly the shower room wasn't as good with about 10 years worth of black mould around the shower cubicle. Not daunted by this we had a good nights sleep followed by the breakfast from the fridge of toast yogurt and the 1 croissant provided. All good until we returned to our room at 5 o'clock after a long day out to find it being cleaned so we had to go down and wait in the lobby until the young lady had finished. Back in our room we found the wet through towel and bath mat had just been left. We asked if we could have some dry towels but were told these had to last us the 3 days! They did give us some more but said that was our allowance. We then looked in the fridge to find we only had 2 slices if bread, not even a croissant today. We had to ring for more bread for the morning. We then noticed our bin was still full of the yogurt pots etc. from breakfast so I guess you can only have your bin emptied at the end of your stay? Talking of bins the next morning I put something in the bathroom bin and was disgusted to discover the previous guests sanitary towels and make up remover pads in it!!!! The next day we returned to our room at 5 o'clock again and it hadn't been touched. The young lady was cleaning another room so we asked for ours to be done and the bins emptied as I told her about the previous guests dirty sanitary towels in the bin. She said she would leave the room she was cleaning and do it for us. Again we had to go wait in the foyer! This time the room was fully restocked with food and the bins emptied so all good. A couple of tips for the owner would be to get the housekeeping in order and also clean the filthy blackened banisters on the way to the rooms. Also put a wifi code in the room. We ended up ringing a mobile to find this out and the guy who answered was in Portugal. Sadly I can't honestly recommend this hotel.

Our second time visiting the Orchard Yurt didn’t disappoint! Amelia and Yogi were, yet again, the perfect hosts…welcoming, friendly and helpful. This truly is a luxury glamping experience, the yurt is furnished beautifully with a really comfy bed, there’s a loo close by as well as a hot shower, and the kitchen is equipped with everything you need including a mini fridge, kettle and toaster. There’s electricity and WiFi on your camp site, as well as a log burning stove and a hot tub which is heated up by Amelia and Yogi ready for your arrival!! The site is also very dog friendly and secure. We absolutely loved our stay here, our walks and our visits into Stamford which is a lovely town. Thank you Amelia and Yogi for making everything perfect ❤️ We really couldn’t ask for more and can’t wait to be back x x

The Toll House, a perfect stay.

Reviewed By XantheSG

We stayed in the Toll House and loved it. Everything was perfect, such a high standard and the bed was so comfortable. Staying in a historic building with the town, river, meadow right on our doorstep. We came by train with just a 5 minute walk from the station. In the 1970s I danced here many a time when it was the Riverside Club. It was great having access to the balcony when the beauty salon is open. It is a little sun trap out there. The keyless access was such a good idea too. I would highly recommend.
