Excellent location for visiting Stone forest!
Reviewed By pathungWe picked this hotel because it is new and modern, a short drive( 7 kms ) to Stone Forest. It has hot springs and a beautiful, peaceful garden. There is a small open air fruit market, which opens until late and good restaurants nearby. The room is spacious and clean, comfortable bed and good shower. Only one member of staff, speaks English. I believe he is the manager - Mike Tian. He was very helpful and ensured that all our requests were met, provided us with yoghurt and coffee as breakfast is geared for Asians, although , it was tasty and varied. Mike picked us up from the airport and drove us to Stone Forest at our request and charged us a reasonable fee. We had a pleasant stay at Chinese Yew Lake hotel. Thank u to Mike and staff. Fee Hung

Great stay at Shilin beautiful Minority village - excellent service and support

The Lady from Mijia Guest House was extremely supportive and kind: she picked us up at Shilin Bus station, brought us with her car to the guest house, gave all sorts of advice how to get around and brought us a few days later in the early morning back to the bus station to Kunming. The rooms are very nice and offer a lot of space including a nice balcony. The village itself is absolutely remarkable: everywhere corn drying in the sun, little shops, an extraordinary market place with dancing events (minority dances and lion dance) every Tuesday and Friday. We could not trust our eyes - never seen such vibrant and 'non tourist' dance events. These dances are not ment to entertain tourists but simply are a strong sign for the lively traditions at Shilin county. The Lady from Mijia guest house supported also in a very special way: I needed urgently new eye medication - she helped me and organized via internet the correct medication, made sure that the medication arrived at Yuanyang (next stay of our Yunnan trip) in a very remote area - including cold chain transport. All that in a very humble and customer oriented way - and more than that: she treated us as if we were friends or familiy members. A great place to stay before you visit the Stone Forest - take your time for Mijia Guest House and enjoy remarkable hospitality!

Great location and host.
Reviewed By Victoria OWe chose this homestay due to its close location to the Stone Forest but the host was exceptional in looking after us too. The Stone forest is a 20 minute walk/ 5 minute taxi drive from the Stone forest and easy to get to using the local buses out of Kunming East bus station. The village is sweet and quiet. Its a lovely place to wander round and enjoy some of the wall frescos and local atmosphere. We connected with the host before staying on wechat and they provided us with pictures and a map so we could easily locate the property. Our room was simple but clean and quiet. It had AC, Wifi, TV and a kettle. The bathroom was a 'wet room' style. English was minimal but translating using phones, we never encountered any communication problems. They were also kind enough to let us use the washing machine and hang our clothes to dry. The breakfasts (included) where huge and yummy. We had 3 different types of steamed buns, milk and fried dough and fresh fruit. Coffee and tea were always available (2 bottles of water in the room each day too) and one morning we also had some fried rice- we never went hungry here! There a number of local restaurants and convenience shops close by. The restaurants don't speak English but most have a picture board out the front and you can point to the produce inside- we enjoyed everything we ate :) Our host also organised transport for us as taxis don't come through the village. She encouraged us to visit the Jiuxiang cave complex which were worth a visit and not originally on our itinerary. Given the price, we were pleased by the kindness of our host to ensure we had a good trip. The location was great for visiting the local attractions.

Reviewed By Yiwen87The weather was really cold and there was no heater in the room.. be prepared to wear many layers to bed.. jus a 5 mins drive to shilin so if you are looking at convenience, this is the place to stay.. keep your expectations really low..
