Mara Frontier Hotel

Terrible! Just Terrible!

Reviewed By 997wamaithak

The customer service at the front desk leaves alot to be desired. This was my second time there and we asked for the rate we were given during a prior visit. The receptionist went ahead to ask for our ID’s to confirm if we had actually been before which is quite ridiculous, to make it worse when they couldn’t find us in the system we had to dig through our phones just to prove we were residents at some point. Is this how you treat customers? Also, when this receptionist shared the new rates, she basically shoved the paper with the rates with no care. She dis not take time to explain and gave us the attitude of ‘take it or leave it’ her colleague tried to salvage the situation but it was a little too late for that. The treatment we received was in poor form and this is how you lose potential long term customers.

Maji Moto Maasai Cultural Camp

Amazing trip, amazing experience!

Reviewed By stelladsb

To have been allowed to enter into the Maasai culture was such a special feeling and the hospitality of the Maji Moto camp made the experience all the better. Me (17) and my dad (53) never once felt like intruders, instead, we were treated like family friends. The staff was so kind and genuine, and the food was deliciously traditional. We stayed in a mud hut for 4 nights, which was a perfect duration, as we managed to take part in all activities, from warrior training to going to the village market, being taught to make bracelets by the children and to hiking up the mountain with a warrior guarding us and teaching us about the ways of the Maasai. We also took part in the extra activities which were both extraordinary experiences. Thank you to our amazing driver and guide/chief for the amazing Safari in the Maasai Mara. We saw so many animals and the scenery was incredible. The Olpul bush camping was also a fantastic experience. The slaughtering of the goat, the singing and dancing around the fire, the blessings given by the chief and of course the falling asleep on a mattress of sage, hearing the hyenas howl in the distance, was the highlight of my trip. I would recommend this to anyone who visits the camp. Overall we had a great time, and I am very grateful for the memories and experiences I made. I think my dad will also remember the camp and his best warrior friend Quila for a very long time! Thank you Suzanne and Salaton for the amazing camp you have established and for protecting the land and community, it was a pleasure to have met you!

Wow!!! Magical, amazing, experience!

We stayed at magical Naserian camp for two nights. Four amazing game drives. We had our two kids ages 16 and 18 yo with us. From the moment that we pulled into the camp we felt at home. Shadrack the manager and his staff greeted us warmly and showed us around the beautiful camp. Our tents were truly wonderful! Comfortable, clean and the grounds were beautiful! The food is exceptional! They easily accommodated our vegetarian diet. The game drives on the Mara were spectacular! We saw all the animals we were hoping to see, John our driver knew exactly where to go, he has grown up on this land! Our favorite was “breakfast in the bush” they packed us a scrumptious breakfast and we ate it sitting in the safari vehicle surrounded by a Family of grazing elephants. Best ever!!!!! We also learned about the masaai culture from John and Moses, to include throwing spears and shooting a masaai bow! The camp was very serene and Shadrack and his staff were exceptional in their attention to detail and their service. Thank you for an unforgettable experience. We hope to be back!!!

Good enough, clean, safe, basic

There is no park to view in Parkview Hotel; it is in the middle of downtown Narok, overlooking the market and the main Mosque. The hotel is build around a covered parking with space for maybe six cars. Parking outside is not recommended. Most clients travel by public transport. Rooms are very small, but clean. Hot showers work. The restaurant does the usual chips and sausages and the like. This place is OK for a short stopover, and the staff is nice. Very good value, without any pretense of luxury.

I made a booking for my guests as a group and every day had a new frustration. The owner cuts corners on everything- the food ran out EVERY TIME. There was no hot water on our arrival, and no water the next morning. Power and water was turned off early so we could not flush the toilets, wash our hands or charge phones. The uphill paths to the tents were uneven and unlit. Any attempts to get torches provided were futile. We had elderly members in our group - one couple was stowed in a tent at the top of the hill and despite mentioning that she was having breathing problems, they did not move her. Our first dinner was partly in the dark - half the lights were not working and staff had to hold their mobile phone torches above their heads for us to see our food. This camp is 2 hours away from the Mara gate which means we have to be out all day. Having made a full board booking we had a picnic (I have stayed in another camp to see the migration so I know the deal). We each had 2 slices of the cheapest bread sandwiches with margarine and thin slice of ham, and a bottle of water to last us a full day out in the park. Dry cheap supermarket muffins we couldn't finish accompanied this. We were starving within hours and too far away to head back. I discussed this with the director on return and he had a 'surprised' look on his face. We discussed packing breakfast the next day as we would be leaving even earlier to see the crossing - making the breakfast ingredients into bacon and sausage sandwiches. Nothing doing. We had even less of the meager ham 'sandwiches', with most having the equivalent of a slice of bread (including a diabetic guest who needed a good meal). The drivers had to share their breakfast with us! The food ran out at every meal, and once, some of the guests had to wait for leftovers to be re-heated. Most annoying was the director's fake look of surprise and bluster every time I has to seek him out to ask for the basics. He has used 'over capacity' as an excuse for lack of amenities, but the booking was made months before, and not all guests turned up. The place clearly had its charm in the past but now feels like it the owner will not spend any more money on it, both in infrastructure, and cheating guests out of food. It was embarrassing for me as the host for my guests and ruined my holiday. Do not go there!
