Wonderful overnight stay

This is a lovely hotel. I received a very warm and friendly welcome on arrival, and although slightly early, was able to go straight to my room. And what a beautiful room it was! The bedroom was very spacious and perfectly laid out. Large windows made the room bright and welcoming. The bathroom, with full bath and good shower was lovely. I was unable to have dinner there due to staff issues, but the receptionist kindly gave some recommendations, and I found a lovely place to eat. I had a great night's sleep thanks to a very comfortable bed, Breakfast was amazing! I would certainly recommend this hotel, and I definitely intend to return. It is situated opposite a lovely park, and within 10 - 15 minutes walk of Montrose's most beautiful beach.

Great food and warm welcome

We visited on Sunday 22nd May and Friday 27th May and received a warm and friendly welcome both times. We were there for food as we were staying in self catering accommodation within walking distance. Our food was delicious and served with a smile. I had strips of beef with a mushroom sauce and basmati rice. Hubby had hake with sliced potatoes, asparagus in a creamy lime sauce. Second time I had battered haddock with chips and peas and hubby had rock turbot with a lobster and mussel sauce. All meals were delicious.

Excellent stay, gem of a hotel!

Grey Harding’s was a pick out of the blue to stay in Montrose ! Myself & my husband chose somewhere we have not been before for our Wedding Anniversary & New Year and we have had an amazing stay, despite the Restaurant not running & only serving breakfast, which was good, it was a lovely stay. Well situated near the beach, Golf (if you like Golf of course), if you like a walk then a nice stroll along the beach or into town. Due to no restaurant running the hotel were very helpful with local recommendations which was very helpful and due to some restaurants closing over New Year the hotel was happy to provide a table, plates and cutlery for a takeaway. The room was well appointed (no cleaning of room due to COVID policy - no prob for us though) for our 4 night stay, the bathroom & shower modern and very good. The bed very cosy & comfortable and plenty of storage space to unpack for a longer stay. The hotel is beautifully decorated and clean, nice little bar, lounge area and dining area with view over the links. The staff have been very polite, helpful and lovely to talk to and who have made our stay such a lovely one. Well recommended and we will certainly return again, hopefully the restaurant will be up & running by then. There are still things we have not yet visited so we will definitely return. Many thanks to all - Roos Leap and Stroma Restaurants stand out for excellent meals.

Homely, helpful and very cosy

Reviewed By fernandesbristol

This was my second trip to Montrose and first staying at the George and I will definitely be returning. From both a couple of queries via email before arriving, to my 3 day stay, nothing was too much trouble and the owners/staff continually went out of their way to be helpful - keeping a meal for me when I arrived late on a Friday night, allowing me to check out late, asking if I needed anything while I did some work in their reception. It's a really welcoming place. Add in a cooked to order breakfast, an excellent bar restaurant serving huge delicious meals all day, and a cosy, clean hotel room that was tidied immaculately every day -- and spotlessly clean bathroom, it was a home away from home and much nicer than plastic chain hotels. It's in a good location right in the centre of Montrose a short walk to everywhere including the beach, the museum, the docks and Bamse statue and all the food and drink options. And the bar opposite sells Thatchers Gold. What's not to like!

Sleepless nights

Average but rooms match the rate. Unfortunately I did not sleep well due the the low standard of mattress which is a big deal when needing a good night's sleep. The food was good and the rooms where clean. The staff where friendly and helpful. The location is very close to the train tracks so again more disturbance when sleeping.

vile staff, very upsetting stay

Reviewed By BrookeMacdonald12

I am absolutely shocked and so upset how I was treated. the staff were so rude, nasty and down grading me. I was spoked to like I was nothing, the owner was angry, not welcoming and stormed about the place. said this room water is ok to drink, I was poisoned and so unwell. there was a rat, the staff didn’t give us toilet paper, we weren’t allowed to even use tv. they over charged us, there was no social distancing, no masks and when I asked to put one on she said no. she was also drunk on shift, all the staff are awful. the water that is not for drinking is also used in the bar for people so that’s unacceptable? also there was advertised for golf course but it isn’t there ?

Stunning relaxing property

Reviewed By 300505

Spent a week at Woodston Fishing Station in August 2020 and after multiple holiday cancellations it was a pure tonic to visit such a stunning place as Woodston. The house was warm and had every conceivable item at the property and as the owners only live opposite and are available anytime, without being in your face. The House is immaculately clean and the position up on top of the donkey trail is heavenly. There is a path right next to the property that people walk past occasionally but everyone was friendly including the local teenagers who met up on the beach one night but all were very polite and we did not get disturbed by then at all. All in all our week at Woodston consisting of two families with 15 year old teenage girls, who hardly touched their phones and prefered completing a Jigsaw they found, such is the magic of this place, was subline. Peace, Beauty and comfort in a sunning local. Loved It.
