Lunch

Reviewed By kadi1974

Moved to the area a few months ago so thought we would try this venue. Ordered duck in orange sauce and steak pie. The duck was overcooked and did not have crispy skin. The steak pie had a huge filo pastry top over some somewhat dry steak and carrots. There was no gravy and would have been too dry without so asked for gravy which the waiter kindly brought, unfortunately the gravy was rather watery.Chips seemed to be frozen chips which is ok but you kind of expect chips not to be nowadays don't you? Three pounds for half a lemonade and lime seemed a bit steep but maybe that is the going rate now. The waiter was efficient and friendly. Overall it seemed a little expensive for the quality/ standard of food.

Stayed for 2 nights as we were at a wedding close by. 3 rooms. No breakfast offered

Reviewed By MerseysideTinkerbell

We stayed here in September for 2 nights as we were 3 couples attending a wedding close by and so needed to stay the night before the wedding and the night of the wedding. Other guests from the wedding were staying at various other hotels in Lampeter, which we were told offered breakfast but this one did not. They have quite a few rooms by looks of it. They are reasonable priced and we all said that they were very comfy beds etc. The only thing is that as can be expected if staying on a Friday and Saturday night in a town which actually has a uni close and they will just have started back that there was quite a bit of noise during the night on the first night but as we were not back from the wedding until like 1am we didnt see anyone around on the Saturday night. There is a small car park around the back but quite difficult to locate as it is down a narrow little lane. All in all a pleasant stay.

Great value lunch

Reviewed By xyjason

We were visiting an old friend who lives nearby and recommended this hotel for lunch. The menu is basic but the ingredients were plentiful and good quality. Lunch for four with drinks came to just over £20, representing the best value meal of any of our trips.

The Nags Head

The most unwelcome my family have been made to feel.

Reviewed By DayTrip57683712020

We just had the most truly bizarre experience here! We walked in as a hungry & thirsty family of 7 and asked the gentleman at the bar if we were ok to eat. He politely said ‘yeah, but I must inform you there will be swearing in here tonight’. I’m still laughing as I write this, we are far from prudish people (I was born and lived in pubs all my life, until I moved out of home, work in a factory and captain a pub football team. I am familiar with Anglo Saxon language alright!) I had to actually ask him to repeat what he said as it was the most bizarre thing I’ve been told by a proprietor of a pub in my life, and didn’t really get what point he was making - ‘there will be swearing in here!’ Retrospectively, the place was quite big and if he wanted our trade, he could’ve easily have sat us away from the booze hounds. We saw there were a few men drinking in the bay window on entry, and as grown up people ourselves we made the subconscious decision to go inside. It’s life isn’t it, we were fully aware it was a pub and not a night at the opera. ‘You pay your money, you make your choice’. Well, we made our choice. Had we as a family (3 teenagers included, that probably swear more than the 5 blokes nursing pints in there do!) sat down and heard any swearing in a pub we choose to go in, we wouldn’t have batted an eyelid. As it turned out, to be told there ‘will be swearing’, it was clear we weren’t welcome. This place is obviously just a ‘spit and saw dust’ type boozer, and don’t want the trade of families eating out. Ignore the signs and suggestion that they do food, £3 pints is where their business lies. Good luck to them on that, harder way to make a living, from my experience. We’ve just happily gone and ordered £150+ of food and drink at a hotel around the corner instead, and we were offered a lovely welcome! And guess what?! We just over heard someone swearing! Oh, can you imagine, we all laughed!!! Remember kids…. ‘Pay your money, make your choice’! Spend your £150 where you’re welcome, and that is not here.

We return year after year

Reviewed By John R

We have been coming here for about fours years. We have stayed in TyTwt and the Granary. We have brought family members with us and everyone loves this beautiful place. It is all self catering and the hosts Shelley & Joe are such lovely kind people, nothing is too much trouble for them. You can walk across their 32 acres of land, feed their sheep, sit by their babbling brook in the valley, watch wildlife, red kites, buzzards, and much, much, more. There is a yoga studio for your use, exercise equipment, bar-b-q, fire pit and even a small chapel. WiFi is available in the Granary. This is such a serene place, ideal for rejuvenating your spirits. Lampeter is about 15 minutes drive and about 18 - 20 miles from New Quay, Aberystwyth, Aberaron, so much to do. If you wish to hike there are plenty of lanes and fields to walk. We love it here and we will keep return as long as we can.
