Great stay

Reviewed By brucec548

My wife and stayed a night and had both our evening meal and breakfast there. Very comfortable room and bed with a well equipped spotless bathroom. The Horse & Jockey is full of character and we enjoyed warm hospitality. The food was also good. We walked from there up onto Offa’s Dyke and enjoyed wonderful scenery on a beautiful winter’s day. Great experience!

On arrival a lovely welcome was given by the friendly lady at reception. Rooms were clean, comfortable and very warm. Kitchen facilities available for guests to prepare their own meals. Can't fault the place, especially for the price. The beautiful wooden double staircase and landings are a particularly nice feature of this establishment.

A great place to stay . Our twin room was really clean and comfortable . The staff are very welcoming and helpful . The Butty Bach draught beer was excellent . The menu for evening meals had plenty of variety and the food was really good. Breakfasts were more than adequate and very well prepared.

What a gem!

What a gem! Situated in the centre of Knighton, right by the clock tower, this former public house has been stylishly converted into a B'n'B. My room still had some older elements but with the addition a very elegant and new en-suite. The owners Neil and Kath know their stuff and provide TV, tea and coffee making facilities and an espresso machine. There was more than enough storage space too and a lot of cushions. I did find the absence of dedicated re-charging slots a little frustrating but fortunately I had brought my own charger. The price of the room I thought was quite appropriate given the facilities and services provided. I came by train so cannot comment on parking. Neil and Kath do not live on site but are there to welcome you and they give you your own key to let yourself in and out. They also provide telephone numbers for an emergency. This was not a problem. They, and all their staff followed COVID security rules and so masks were worn. Breakfast, cooked by Neil, was excellent and very tasty. The full English was on offer with toast, marmalade, cereals and yoghurts etc. Neil was also happy to get any particular flavours too. In fact he could not have been more helpful even sourcing decaffeinated pods for the espresso machine. Fresh milk and biscuits were also provided. TV channels were limited to Freeplay(?) and would be useful to foreign guests but UK channels were limited to BBC news. and Sky news. I really enjoyed my three days in Knighton and this was a lot to do with the comfort of my accommodation for which I must thank my hosts.

Fantastic venue, unfortunately poor cleanliness.

Absolutely amazing retreat with fantastic facilities, my family and I (family of 4) stayed in the Alpine Cottage and as soon as we walked in I said that the photos online do not do it justice! It's extremely beautiful and very well equipped. Our family had also hired out the rest of the venue for a birthday and we were able to have use of the village hall which I would like to add is fabulous!! The grounds are beautiful with lots of hidden treasures in every direction. There was however one down side to our visit which was that it is very dusty!! I suffer with allergies and dust aggravates them massively, I woke up the during the first night unable to open my very swollen eyes and struggling to breath needing to take extra antihistamines, the next morning on further inspection I spotted the reason why, even when the sun shines through you can see all of the dust partials floating round! I appreciate that with high beams inside it can be tricky to dust in high places but there were also MANY places throughout the cottage that clearly had not seen a duster in quite a while including parts of the floor! Everything else was clean, sheets and towels were fresh and it had been cleaned on the surface, it just needs a deeper clean a little more often! We all had a fabulous time and we would definitely return in the future. It really is a very beautiful and special place.

26th October 2021. Food was fantastic. There is a separate area for dogs inside the pub which is lovely. All food freshly cooked and homemade. Best food I've had and I'm a very very picky eater. Staff are lovely. Would highly recommend this pub to everyone.

Great B&B right in town

Serena is a perfect host in a great property. My room, The Copper Stag, was great and they had even arranged for there to be a clock tower right outside the window. Terrific breakfast and good local tips which allowed me to walk across the road, order m fish and chips, and have them delivered into the Pub next door to be devoured with a few really good pints of stout - what more can a man want? Thanks Serena for being so nice.

Me and husband came away for a week break as we both work for the NHS and was so pleased. Lodge was absolutely spotless and clean. Hot tub and sauna was my favourite part of it! The staff were lovely and brilliant and so helpful! They went above and beyond to ensure we had the best stay. Even had a bottle of Prosecco complimentary on arrival?
