Not at all amazing or wonderful

The hotel itself is very nice, the gardens exceptionally so. The room (we chose The Level Ocean View) was also nice with views as expected from all the pics on the web. The restaurants themselves were all nicely set out too, the staff were nice, and the beach was extremely nice.....and that's as far as it goes, nice, because the thing that lets this hotel down is the food, which was not nice at all. Simply put, when you go to an up market hotel, you expect well prepared food, and we did not get any. Think lovely inspired menus, and not having trained chefs to deliver them..... First impressions tend to linger. We arrived at the hotel at breakfast time after a long journey. Entering the small air conditioned room where they have all the breakfast food laid out, there were dozens of flies crawling all over the meats, pastries and fruits. The ever so nice staff who insisted on opening the door for you were oblivious to the fact that the food was covered in insects - Yuk!! The food was not covered, and those blue electric lights that zap flies in the butchers at home? Nope. Glass covers over the food? Nope. Staff waving the flies away? Nope. Ordering an omelette, it was presented as uncooked slop. Bacon served almost raw. The fact that their eggs have white yolks is not their fault, but when the eggs are served snotty, yuk. Leaving the air conditioned room, our breakfast table needed the burning coffee granules to deter the flies, but of course they don't work. Then the cold coffee and horrendous tasting juices just added to the misery. Great start. It became worse, as we discovered the beach bar was infested with flies. They just arrive for their lunch when your meal is delivered to the table, and it was a very unpleasant experience. We caught the last week of the raining season, and whilst it did not rain at all, and was constantly sunny, it was very humid and apparently, that's why the place is plagued by flies at this time of year. The climate and the flies are not the hotel's fault, but the lack of attention to hygiene and poor food most certainly is. We did not get Delhi Belly, thankfully, but we did get the distinct impression that we would never return to this hotel. Fortunately, we only stayed for 3 nights before going to Botswana on safari. Unfortunately, we wanted to leave the day we arrived.

Great hotel, our room was ready within an hour of arrival. Quite a steep walk to get to some of the rooms. Rooms are nice and clean, but space for putting your cloths away is a bit limited. In evening the mosquito curtains are closed around the bed, a nice touch ! All the staff are very friendly and the always do their best to help. Food is good for all-in, enough variety, quite a lot is spicy and curry based, which i found very tasty. My only complaint is the desserts are a bit basic sometimes. Bar is also good with plenty of cocktails etc. Entertainment is ok, no noisy music during the day due to activities etc , pole pole is the key word here. Beach vendors can be a bit of a pain sometimes, especially if you just want to have a nice walk along the beach. All in all great hotel to relax and getaway from it all. Perfect !!!

Mvuvi Resort

Mvuvi Resort is an elite boutique hotel on the east coast of Zanzibar. It is located on the white beach of Kiwengwa, overlooking the Indian Ocean; from there you can admire the crystal and clear waters of the reef. It can be defined as an intimate location, genuine and elegant at the same time, in a state of perfect harmony with the Swahili culture and traditions. A place where you can sunbathing on a peaceful private beach enjoying the real beauty of the nature or doing sports. There is something to suit all tastes, such as kite surfing, diving, and many others. It is also the ideal starting point for different kinds of excursions to Zanzibar or exciting safari in Tanzania. The building consists of six large rooms with all amenities and comfort, it is specializes in a highlevel hospitality. It represents the ideal destination for young couples (for instance, on their honeymoon), but for families with children and groups of friends also. Mvuvi Resort is not the typical mass tourist resort, it is something more: it’s a quiet and exclusive place, which has a saltwater pool and a private spa in its green garden. In the end, you can even admire and enjoy a lovely meal in the restaurant with a nice terrace that overlooks the Ocean; it seems a perfect spot for romantic dinners and hearty breakfasts. A fusion cuisine, in which Mediterranean flavours are mixed with the colours and aromas of local products and goods, starting from fish to tropical fruits. An unspoiled place to spend carefree days of vacation in Zanzibar in a real African atmosphere. Free Wi-Fi access in all the Resort

Situated on Zanzibar’s picturesque North East coast overlooking the turquoise Indian Ocean, it is as the name suggests, a little piece of paradise. From your arrival at Zanzibar Airport, the resort is a meandering 45-minute journey through un-spoilt scenery, passing typical African villages where the way of life has changed little for hundreds of years. At Ocean Paradise Resort & Spa, you will be greeted by a blaze of colors as you sweep down the imposing driveway passing through the entrance gate. You will be captivated as you arrive in the reception to discover a view over the resort and the azure blue sea. Mature coconut palms swinging in the breeze, white sandy beach, beautiful landscaped gardens, traditional style round chalets with pitched makuti roof, a stunning waterfall feature and one of the largest swimming pools in Zanzibar are just some of the sights that await you. In just one simple word! .... “EXCELLENT”

After our super memorable and adventurous safari we flew back to Zanzibar to spend some time in Kiwengwa. Our first stay for a week was here at White Dream , a cozy little place directly on the beach! It couldn’t have been more direct!! On arrival we received an excellent warm and super friendly welcome from Ivana and we were immediately made to feel right at home.! She showed us to our room (room4) which was bright and spacious with a big comfortable double bed and also a single (very useful for the storage of our case) The bathroom too was beautifully laid out, with a large nice clean mirror over the basin, a huge walk-in shower and a useful bidet. The restaurant was cozy with ambient lighting and the food too was excellent, both for breakfast, a quick lunch and dinner. The cheese burger in particular was extremely nice especially with the accompanied fries! A little too large for me for lunch, but it was so good I just had to eat it all! The Carbonara at dinner time was more than yummie; I consider myself quite an expert when it comes to Carbonara , and I have to say that this was one of the best I’ve had for a long long time ... so a huge Asante Sana to the person responsible for making such a delight. At this point it’s also worth mentioning that if you only wanted half portions of something that this was never a problem - especially with the pizzas, you could have one with 2 different topppings. The restaurant staff are all lovely darling girls, polite and always helpful! In fact, ALL the staff - every single one of them - at White Dream were great! A couple of nights I had “dinner for one” due to my husband not being very well. Thank you Ivana for your concern and for making sure that I was ok!! You are a darling!... the hug helped a lot! The white soft talcum powder beach was no more than 10 steps away from our bedroom , a pure delight... and I once again walked for miles meeting various people along the way, saying many “Jambo’s” and making new friends. I was totally 100% in my element ! I was happy also to have met Martha, the sweet Maasai girl making her jewellery under a big tree on the beach.. I am still wearing the bracelets she made! Ivana, if you should see her, please remind me to her..she’s only a few steps away.. Thank you to all the girls in the restaurant; Malima, Tatu,Anna,Juliette, Monnalisa & Imelda ? To Evelyn and Asha in housekeeping ? Also of course to all the kitchen staff and chefs and not forgetting Ali and Silima and guardian Makame for keeping us safe. I for one would come back right now if I could... . magic me over please! ?
