This hotel is going through a refurbishment. The lounge and dining room was tastefully decorated to a new standard. The food in the hotel was superb. Bar prices very reasonable. The room had a sea view. It was excellent with king size bed and comfortable. Hot water in room was very hot and shower amazing. Staff very friendly.

We alerted the hotel that we were arriving but late given that were coming on the ferry from Kirkwall. When we arrived, we were provided with our room key and to our deep dissatisfaction were assigned to a room for the disabled that had not been renovated in a very long time, had a stain on the mattress and featured understandably a sink that required one to sit in a chair to reach it. I proceeded to complain and was told that the hotel was fully booked. However, the person covering guest services nonetheless upon my insistence, was able to find a suitable room. The day of our departure, I spoke with manager who informed me that when fully booked they fill all rooms including rooms designed for disabled people. Be forewarned that the room we experienced was totally offensive in that it was completely unsuitable. This represents the ultimate in poor customer service. No apologies can undo this. Beware all of this hotel’s blatant approach to providing outdated rooms to the disabled and poor focus on their customers.

Orcades Hostel is an independent, family run hostel in Kirkwall - the capital of the Orkney Islands. Clean, modern, friendly, comfortable and situated in a peaceful location but only 10 minutes walk from St Magnus Cathedral or 5 minutes walk to the supermarkets. All rooms are en-suite and we have double/twin and 4 - 6 bed dorms.
Basic, clean, warm, great facilities, helpful instructions and staff. Well placed to go and explore Kirkwall and the Orkney Islands. Would strongly recommend this as an excellent hostel. Just one night stay and wished I'd stayed longer.

Heatherlea B&B is a lovely traditional Kirkwall property with beautiful views across Kirkwall Marina and out to the North Isles of Orkney and only 5 minute walk to town centre where you will find all the shops, bars and restaurants. We offer stylish, 3 newly refurbished bedrooms, each with ensuite, free Wi-Fi, flat screen tv, desk area with plenty of space to work or relax in. Free off street parking at the property with EV Charging Station.
We stayed at Heatherlea for 6 nights and absolutely loved it. Debbie is a brilliant host who runs a faultless operation. The room was really well appointed, with very clever use of space to provide a dressing room as well as a bedroom and bathroom. Breakfast was excellent every day, and we will definitely be back whenever we return to Orkney, which is a certainty as it is an amazing destination.

The Shore Inn the perfect stay overlooking the harbour in Orkney Islands.
I write this review very mindful of the effect both covid and brexit has had on resources for this industry and the endeavours so many owners are making to offer the best experience to their customers… On the positive side - our room was clean, spacious and equipped as expected, located on 1st floor, views across the harbour. Staff were helpful when needed (extra teabags etc). Good shower. On the other hand… Personally I could have left as soon as I walked into the entrance especially if I had been on my own. It’s dingy, dark, unwelcoming, grubby with a foisty smell that permeates from entrance to the corridors. Yes it’s been taken over by the Kirkwall, and yes given my opening points I can see why they cannot at this point run two restaurants and receptions. However, the hotel management must invest in the initial ‘appeal’ of this hotel, otherwise reviews like mine and others will continue. We would not come back here or recommend it. The notices on the door and around the place did make me feel like I was in a hostel in the 1980s!! Lovely people, lovely Kirkwall.
