Unique and charming

I happened upon Villa Abbemar on TA while looking for a place to stay our last night in Italy. Needed something near airport FCO. I was a bit dubious as the price seemed too low but the photos said 'take a shot'. A bit hard to find up a narrow passage and adjacent to a larger hostelry, we got it right the second time. Buzz to have the gate opened. The grounds are lovely and very well kept. The building itself seems to be from maybe the 1920's and is gorgeously outfitted with 21st century functionality but maintaining its historical charm with museum-quality furniture and artwork throughout the public areas. The rooms and baths have all the mod-cons and are impeccably clean. We were pleasantly surprised to find there was an intimate music event scheduled for the evening of our arrival but dreaded being faced with amateur artists. Shame on us for thinking so. Rather, we were treated with real-for-real operatic singers who presented a potpourri of opera, show tunes and classics. Knocked our socks off. Afterward, we were seated for dinner. Four-course dinner and entertainment for €30 per person! The overall comfort and charm carried the day. Staff were hospitable and friendly. Breakfast was pretty much standard Euro-fare.

What an extraordinary bathroom

Reviewed By FnuLnu

The hotel looks old and is particularly charming. We stayed in the demi suite - a large comfortable room with a fabulous bathroom. I felt like I was showering in Herculaneum. The huge tub and walls are covered with mosaics - as is the wall where the toilet is located. The thick planked wood floors are beautiful. I must say, though, that the shower is not for people who are unable to climb up and then down into a tub. The hotel also has an outstanding restaurant - eating inside is lovely and outside tables are available. Grottaferrata is not a tourist town and only two staff members spoke some English - one was a waiter. It is relatively easy to drive to the subway to take a train to downtown Rome. There are various shops near the hotel and a lovely church/monastery so walking around was delightful. There is also a free parking lot directly across from the hotel. I just loved it.

Every year when spending our vacation in Italy we like to visit Rome for a couple of days. Because we had a bad experience with a B&B in Rome last year, we decided to look for a place to stay a little bit out site the city. We found Borgo Castel Savelli and that proved to be an excellent location. To reach the city center, we had a short drive to the Anagnina metrostation where we could park the car. Perfect. The apartment was spacious and clean, with a kitchenette, terrace and nice bathroom. There was free parking under the building. In that parking was a washroom. For € 3,00 we had clean clothing. Staff was very friendly and helpfull. We highly recommend this apartment building.

Excellent hotel, very nice and friendly owners

Reviewed By AlexandraG2627

We are still at the hotel for one more night and so far we spent excellent time here. We are living and Rome and were looking for a place for 2 nights during our move to a new house. I was looking for something not very expensive and close to the old house. I was a bit concerned about 3 stars, as usually I try to book at least 4, but what a surprise ! The owners are very nice, it feels like family. They do their best in these difficult times to accommodate the guests as best as they can. With my husband we needed to rest so we booked two single rooms. Another surprise ! Single rooms have a queen bed, which is much more comfortable than a standard single one. Due to COVID, we were the only customers at this hotel, I was concerned about service or heating. Even more surprising, everything was sparkling clean, the room was heated before we came so we did not experience any cold. Thanks to the fact that we were guests, we could take advantage of the restaurant service in the evening. The place is currently working on delivery only but the owners were so happy to see some people, they exceeded all expectations. The food was fresh, of an outstanding quality and taste. In addition, the place is very well decorated. For breakfast, the owners brought us some croissants from bakery, because during COVID they do not prepare sophisticated breakfasts, which is totally understandable. Now what I had seen on the breakfast table was better than in many other places from before COVID, so great job ! I will definitely come back and recommend this family-run place to any friends visiting Rome. Thanks to all the team for the great rest much needed !
