Bower down to 3 stars unfortunately

We didn't get off to a good start. My wife tried calling to book a table, no answer, however there is a contact us form on the website so we filled it in to ask for a table to be booked and no reply was ever received. 2 weeks after we eventually managed to speak to some one to book a table, my last review here was around 4/5 years ago and I give 5 stars, today, I have given 3 stars, not sure what's happened here?? The time off because of covid?? New chef?? Complacency because it's constantly busy?? Who knows, but the food was out in a flash, and my father in law who ordered a lasagne was disappointed as it was very very dry, looked as tho it was sat under a heat lamp for 10 mins, my wife's meal was just a shrug of the shoulders, my meal was cajun chicken and tbf it was tasty, I enjoyed, but my plate was just thrown together, my meal came with chips and salad, the chips pail and most of them were the little loose bits you get at the bottom of a frozen bag, the salad?? Half a lettuce, thick slices of tomato and not dressed?? I mean come on, it's not like I'm paying 6 quid for a main meal hear, it's nearly on 15 quid for the main meal and should be much much better, I will return as I enjoy sitting in the garden with a pint looking over at the hills, but it'll be next year, let's hope the love, time, and attention to detail would have improved by then.

Forest How Guest House

Situated at the foot of Muncaster Fell amidst five and a half acres of natural fellside and gardens, Forest How enjoys spectacular views across the Eskdale valley. Set at the end of a quiet lane that crosses the famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, you can leave the car and walk straight from the house or take the steam train up the valley to Boot or down to the coast at Ravenglass. For the outdoor enthusiast, the area is a haven for walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. If you head out for the hills and are unfortunate enough to get caught in a shower, we have a spacious drying room so that all your gear will be dry and ready for the next day’s adventures. We also have secure cycle storage. Frequent visitors to the gardens and surrounding fields include roe deer and red squirrels and you may spot a barn owl at dusk, circling the field for food.

Lovely break & Red Squirrels too

Reviewed By LeeFinney

After watching a youtube video by (Daniconnorwild) I decided to book Forest How guest house in the hope of watching & photographing Red Squirrels. I certainly wasn't disappointed in any way. The house is lovely & situated in beautiful surroundings that screams "nature". I was treated to several Red Squirrels visiting the garden & surrounding woodland each day (including juveniles that played just a few feet in front of me). There's colourful garden birds visiting the feeders non stop & even pheasants regularly visiting. My room also overlooked a lovely field that deer entered daily to feed. The hosts Kate & Corinne are genuinely lovely people who are happy to chat & pass on their knowledge of the wildlife & amenities in the lical area. The breakfasts are delicious & you choose what you want from a list provided. You can also enjoy your breakfast while watching the beautiful birds & squirrels. There's Stanley Ghyll Force waterfall just a few miles away that features a viewing platform 150ft up & Scafell Pike nearby too. Highly recommended for a peaceful getaway in a stunning part of our country.

Perfect for our needs. Rooms are clean and comfortable, had an excellent night's sleep. Reception is unmanned for periods of time but there is a direct phone line to contact staff. Appreciated the flexibility of communal living spaces and kitchen. We brought our dog and he was very happy! Surrounding landscape is just breathtaking. Don't expect phone signal but the wifi at the property was great. A perfect base for laid back travellers- and certainly the best value we found! Even saw an electric car charger at the front!

Lovely. Very convenient if using public transport

Reviewed By Rob D

Just stopped two nights and was made very welcome. Spotless. Slate and wooden floors but warm. Nice view from my room. Two pubs, both good for evening meal and real ale. Small shop is part of it and can make sandwiches and has essential walking stuff. Nice breakfast. The owner is very knowledgeable about walking and climbing in the area. It's a short walk from the narrow gauge railway. I came by train to Ravenglass. There is an old mill being restored and waterfalls just up the road. Plenty of walks to suit all abilities.
