Spectacularly good facilities, service, food and scenery
Reviewed By I9719MQalbertorThe Asterbel deserves every one of its four stars, and then some. The food and location should get five, in fact. Recommended without hesitation! We chose the "3/4 pension" option which includes breakfast, dinner and an afternoon snack (and by "snack" here they mean a glorious buffet spread, including world-class cakes and pastry plus local charcuterie, that could be dinner by itself.) Every single thing that came out of the kitchen over four days was outstanding. Don't go home without having tried their take on local classics such as Knödel (bread dumplings), apple Strudel and Kaiserschmarrn. They did pretty well on more adventurous dishes, too. Special shoutout to the extensive wine list. The staff was attentive without being obtrusive. The owners, the Mairhofer family, were friendly and efficient and clearly enjoyed running a beautiful hotel. Top-notch hospitality is a regional tradition in South Tyrol, and the Mairhofers do it right. (Most staff we interacted with spoke English, which is good if you don't do Italian or German.) The heated pool and spa were a great way to relax after a day of hiking. Speaking of which, there are trails of all sorts around the hotel, from fun family strolls to expert level stuff (you can hike up Dürrenstein aka Pizzo Vallandro, the spectacular jagged mountain visible from the hotel, if you don't suffer from fear of heights.) The hotel will provide maps and detailed descriptions of many hikes. Sleeping is a joy here, with super comfortable beds and really quiet surroundings. You're at 1400 m / 4600 ft and the air is crisp and clear. The hotel's decor is tasteful and full of beautiful touches, and everything is spotless clean. The Asterbel is not the cheapest option in the area, but it offers exceptional value. We'll be back for sure, and we'll send our friends.

An excellent choice as a base to visit the Dolomites
Reviewed By Jean-Paul BOur second stop during our 6 week trip around Italy. We stayed from Sept. 13th through 16th at Hanslerhof. We chose Hanslerhof because we felt it was quaint and comfortable. Indeed it was and surpassed our expectations. Our room in a chalet style was very large with 2 separate large beds as required. The bath room was very modern and well equipped. Everything was immaculate and we had a nice view on the mountains. The breakfast is quite an experience and looks more like a lunch or even a dinner. Helmut and Alexandra (?) are tremendous hosts. They provided very good information about restaurants and sites like lake of Braies. We highly recommend this "farm house" as a base to explore the Dolomites

Reviewed By TashPorraGreat location - a stone throw from Lake Braies, however we found the host to be quite rude and unprofessional in general. After leaving an item of value behind, I called through to go back and collect, only to be told that it is “not my problem” and I must call back another day because she is busy. We were flying home that night. In addition, breakfast was included in our stay only to be told in the morning that she was not present so no breakfast will be served. I would recommend finding better value for money in the surrounding areas, without the headache.

Not Bad But it's okay
Reviewed By JelajahJJWe were in 4, we came on high season of " ferragosto". First impression was not special, we're welcome with the man on reception ( there's smell not nice of sweat ). Anyway we went to the room, we have 2 differents room, fortunatelly i got the good one ( san vito). The food was so and so, not like typical mountain food, but international, breakfast was discreet ( poor variety of croissants. The Bad one came on 15 august on dinner time, the time service was too long ( i decided to leave after Main course. Spa and pool was great. Service restaurant was the best ( specially ROLANDO ) YOU ARE THE BEST. For All my valutation are 4 points. We will come back to revalutation, we wish next year.

Reviewed By c9920We stayed at the Edel.Weiss for 2 days and it was an unforgettable time. The room was so beautiful and clean and also the service and food was nice. They have a small but cosy wellness area and we will come back as soon as possible!

The glory is in the past
Reviewed By MichalAndMarkIt was our fourth stay at this hotel and definitely the last one. Unlike on the first three, we feel that the hotel changed. The shower was not hot enough and the waterflow was weak. The room, facing the road, was noisy and full of flies. The bathroom window opens into the room. The dinner was nice except the piece of meat that they called antrecote and that was as hard and chewey as a sole of a shoe. The breakfast was rich and plentiful though the cheese was sliced as thinly as prosciutto. All this came not cheap.

La casa è situata a soli 5 km dal Lago di Braies ed è posizionata in mezzo si prati, nel punto più ampio e soleggiato della valle, immersa nella natura è lontana dallo stress quotidiano. La mattina vi coccoliamo con una ricca colazione a buffet. Vi aspettano confortevoli camere doppie arredate in maniera deliziosa. Il variegato paesaggio naturale di Braies e dintorni promette un’ampia scelta di attività per lo sport e il tempo libero in ogni stagione. Una particolare attrattiva è il celebre Lago di Braies, la “perla delle Dolomiti”: nelle azzurre e scintillanti acque del lago si specchiano pittoresche le alte cime delle Dolomiti di Braies. Reviewed By damarecek17I loved staying here so much. It was such a relaxing and lovely romantic experience. The views were incredible and it was so close to Lago di Braies- perhaps a 10 minute drive? However I do recommend not to go there this time of the year!!! Although it may be beautiful (autumn meets winter kind of deal) they seem to take holiday at this point of the year so either go during the summer or peak winter (after Dec 2) if you’re just trynna get away and don’t care that many places are closed then by all means go! ❤️ it was beautiful The rooms are a bit small but they’re very cozy. They also provide a full breakfast every morning at 7:30 or 8:30 (guests choice)

It's located in a charming small village, 5 km drive from the « Lago di Braies « The surrounding mountains participate to the amazing landscape. - The restaurant is renowned : Offering at Lunch and Dinner, HOME MADE delicious and tasty cooking of Dolomites and Italian specialities....! Many locals are eating here, Italian atmosphere is very pleasant. - Service is smily, friendly and efficient. Our room was spotless, the bed very comfortable. - It was a marvelous stay, many thanks to ALL of you...!

Reviewed By robbertbaruchThere are a number of places to spend some time here; for me it was the second time. First time I was alone, second time with (part of) my family. The view is spectacular, and the hotel strikes an amazing balance between history and modernity. Squeeky floors and healthy modern food. Stay is half-board standard: the breakfast is how one would expect, and dinner always have 3 options for starter and main (always one veggie option for each) that are very creative. And also check out the impressive history. And it's family-run too. Go here if you like authenticity. If you like fake, go somewhere else.
