Coolest hostel in town!!

Reviewed By alexmP5956CJ

While located in the middle of a giant staircase, Casa de Dante is the cutest hostel ever with amazing artwork everywhere while there lie incredible views from the balconies. Our room was beautiful with a spacious private bathroom, though a bit chilly at night. Thankfully there were extra thick blankets stocked in the closet for us to use! Each morning we received a filling, home cooked breakfast to fuel a full day of touring Guanajuato. Everyone at the hostel was very personable, staff and guests alike, creating a peaceful atmosphere. It was also nice being away from the noise of downtown and our guide showed us neat back alleys down la Bajada de la Tecolote that brought us right down to the centro. Loved getting in some good exercise walking around town and up and down the many stairs--all made for an amazing experience!! Can't wait to come back to La Casa de Dante and the wonderful city!

Lovely cafe and great food!

A beautiful, tranquil cafe and art gallery. Just finished a very good Salmon baguette and Mediterranean salad and latte. All really good and prices were reasonable. Situated on a quiet square up a little alley behind Teatro Principal.

Nice common areas dorm beds uncomfortable!

Reviewed By Discover817485

The general feel of this place is great. Common area was comfortable and the breakfasts were all tasty and filling. Staff were all pleasant (not a lot of English) and for the most part helpful. Unfortunately the dorm beds were very uncomfortable- super thin mattresses on metal beds. The beds squeak and make a bunch of noise with each movement If you stay be sure to check that there is a board (full length) under the mattress. My first night didn't have one and I woke up many times to have my shoulder wedged between the metal bars. Staff were quick to arrange for a board upon request and the rest of the sleeps were much better (but still not great). Place was clean and in a great location.

Selina San Miguel de Allende

Selina is in the heart of San Miguel de Allende, just meters from the main square cathedral. We overlook the plaza and are close to delicious restaurants and stunning historical sites. San Miguel de Allende is an up and coming bohemian city, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico. Colourful, historical, and culture rich, San Miguel is the perfect place to explore and discover something new each day. It’s the authentic Mexican experience.

Room small and dark like a closet, shower floor dirty and disgusting….hotel not recommended

Reviewed By Irma1944

Paid $ 279.00 for a small and dark “closet” with a shower that was dirty and disgusting. When raising concerns the receptionist was extremely unfriendly. This is an old hotel which for the price is not warranted nor recommended. I normally don’t send reviews but felt compelled in this case to warn fellow travellors.

Nice location

I really enjoyed this place. Comfortable private room with a small door opening to the outside for nice views of the small plaza and life going by. The staff is very friendly and the place was clean while I was there. The rooftop terrace is fantastic! Wi-Fi worked well also.

WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER!

Reviewed By robertsours

Firstly, this is NOT A HOTEL!!! It is more like a hostel located within an old home (very well situated though) and depending on the room it can be somewhat adequate —mind you, completely overpriced for what it is— or it can be downright depressing and ridiculously overpriced for what you get! The cheaper rooms are tiny, dark and smell of old, dusty furniture, with super thin hear-it-all walls. (Old sheets, furnishings, etc). —Plus, these cheap hostel type rooms share two tiny bathrooms which (female-male) which are totally inadequate. These are dirty and literally the toilet is sitting right underneath the shower. One has no ventilation at all or window. (I've actually stayed at much better cheap hostels around the world for a tiny fraction of the price). To make matters even worse the hotel clerk tried to charge us $5 dollars for holding our bags for a couple of hours while our transport left the city. Overall, one of the worst experiences I've had in my lodging acommodotations during my world travels. The place is SIMPLY NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!! Look elsewhere...

Clean. Cordial. Civilized. No Drama. The roof top terrace is a great place to work or to have a meeting or simply take in the marvelous view of the city. There is a life in the streets and there is another life on the roofs. People can see each other and interact high above street level. It was amazing. This place is great. The staff is numerous and efficient. The place runs like a well oiled machine. The continental breakfast if fine and the menu of additional breakfast items is fantastic. One can of course buy food and store it in the kitchen and use the kitchen as needed after 8AM. The internet service is adequate throughout the lodging, however I had issues with my Skype calls, even when I was relatively close to the modem on the entry level. If you work online with voice to voice communication as I do, ask reception about a second internet service. I stayed in a 4 bed female dorm room. There are not chairs, beds or mirrors in the dorm, but there were two windows equipped with insect screens. Housekeepers entered daily to sweep, mop, open the windows and empty the trash cans. The bathrooms were adequate, but during my short stay I never had hot water for a shower at night. I am not sure it that was due to the month, January 2022 or the time of day. No matter. I took care of business at the bathroom sink with soap and (cold) water. lol I chose La Catrina because it had an excellent rating and over 800 reviews on Booking, Plus the price was right, even though it was different on the La Catrina website, on Booking.com and on Hostel World. Of course you can know the price for sure by booking in advance.
