The best available Condos to stay near Yucatan Peninsula

April 23, 2023 Nobuko Falco

Hidden gems of Yucatan, such as Tulum, Akumal, Chetumal, Chichen Itza and Merida, offer an authentic taste of Mexico. Akumal and more Caribbean-style Chetumal, near the Belize border, deliver delectable white-sand beaches and great snorkelling. Merida, Chichen Itza and Tulum, with their ancient ruins, offer a passage into the Yucatanâs native history. Nature lovers can jungle trek and swim in subterranean sinkholes filled with crystal-clear water. Bike around the ruins and hop between towns in colectivo vans.

Christmas Holiday Famoily Trip

Definitely recommend and will stay there again myself. A family owned/operated custom built hotel in a nice safe place 5-15 minutes driving from Cancun beaches (not a walking distance for most people, but if walking is your goal - there is a sidewalk). Bus stop and covid testing booth are a few steps from the hotel (we did antigen and received results within an hour). A big grocery store "Selecto" (with a nice food court if you just want to eat) is a few minutes driving. "Selecto" has everything you need. If budget permits, try getting bay view for beautiful sunsets and sound of palm leaves soaring in the wind. With kids, I'd recommend to rent a car (although number of parking spots at the hotel is limited to 5 or 6). Also pay attention when booking on a platform other than Vrbo (their default platform, as I understand). We booked via Hotels.com, then changed dates of stay on Hotels.com, but Vrbo somehow did not notify the property. The owner resolved the confusion to our favor - we got better room!

Villa de Rosa is a wonderful choice for a tranquil vacation. If what you are looking for is a quiet, relaxing beach, in the middle of Akumal barrier reef and nature preserve, then this is your place! Tony was amazing, responsive, and provided us with great service with any request. Our room was a spacious 2 BR facing the beach and adjacent to the local bar and restaurant Beach Bikini. The beds where great, and it has a fully equipped kitchen. The place is very well maintained and yet, feels dated and doesn’t provide the most modern amenities. Breakfast is varied and is a combination of Mexican and American, Not too creative. The coffee like most of Mexico, is barely drinkable:)

Rip off

I am sorry to say we were very disappointed with our stay. The pictures showed a room set up which was very different, as we were on the split level floor which was extremely small. There was no shower water (only drips), it was quite far on a main road which then backed onto the sea (ie. your sea view is a road first) and management pictures showed the more premium larger rooms only for the booking we made. The bed was not king size as advertised, it was actually a large single bed and we will not be visiting again as it was expensive for what it is. It was the most expensive hotel of our 2 week trip across Mexico, and by far the worst. I only felt clean once I reached Tulum and had a proper shower with actual water flow. I would recommend staying near Playa Norte as those hotels were similar priced, but with the associated facilities, location and beach view.

Really bad place

I’m really surprised how people could even write something positive about this place. I went there and I was going back immediately and found another place. When I arrived they insisted that I couldn’t check in one minute before 3 PM. No flexibility at all. The elevator was broken and nobody offered me to get my bags upstairs. Outside in the street there was a big renovation And it was very noisy. The Jacuzzi That they are advertising has only cold water and is not usable. The room itself was sticky And not like at the pictures at all. Fortunately I was able to cancel my reservation.

Paid the owner $200 to let me leave!

I believe some of the units at Solymar must be better than others, so be careful. One of the biggest problems we had was the fact that the owner, Alejandra, spoke no English. Trying to talk back and forth using Google translate was awful. Before booking, we asked Booking.com if the unit had a kitchen. The answer was yes. I asked for an early arrival time, 13:30, and the answer was yes. The owner said she had a partner that spoke English and would pick us up at the airport. Two days before arriving, we got a message that said “please, limit your cooking, I’m not making enough money to cover the electricity!” AND bring your own beach towels. When we arrived, we dragged 100 lbs of luggage up two flights of stairs, no one around to great us, no one to help us. We sent messages to the owner that we had arrived with the reply that said the unit wasn’t ready. We waited until 15:30, at that time I requested a cancellation, because we aren’t physically able to handle all the stairs. My wife went to look at the unit out of respect, and the only seating was a worn out futon with a sheet on it. The owner was furious, it seemed, but we couldn’t understand anything she said. She finally had a helper translate a bit for us and we got out of staying there for $200 cash. The pool was uninviting with lots of locals and children. They were going to bring us bottled water, so I don’t think the water was safe to drink there. We are so happy to not have had to stay there. Beware:2301, 2401, 2501 We are Interval International members and ended up staying at the Westin Lagunamar and the Coral Mar for less money and they are both fantastic!

Not bad. Has potential

Reviewed By Buckeye1_11

We stayed at this property for a week recently. We booked through the property. We saw previous reviews and experienced many of the same issues. On the positive side the property is well kept and has one of the biggest pools I have seen at a resort. The staff was also pleasant and helpful. And the food at the two restaurants on site was always good. The property has potential but needs some TLC. It was probably a really nice property when first built but could use some updating. Our unit was on the beach which was mostly unusable due to the seaweed. The unit was not well cleaned and had some small issues like a leaky toilet and very wobbly ceiling fan. We were locked out of building after returning one night and needed security to fix the lock. The unit next door was being renovated which was kind of loud during the day. The location is about about 15 from downtown Playa Del Carmen by car. There is nothing around the property itself to walk to. One of the biggest issues was communication with the property management leading up to the trip. Emails weren’t always clear about instructions. They have a portal but it really doesn’t accomplish anything by having it. They mostly communicate by using the WhatsApp which I did not have. Overall it is not a bad property. I think with some improvements and attention to detail I could see it being a really good place to stay.
