Perfect weekend

Reviewed By Thefeinschmeckers

We recently spent the weekend (2 nights) at buitenplaats beekhuizen - what a great place ! We stayed in one of the XL tents which can accommodate up to 7 people. The tent was spacious and had a very convenient layout. It had a decent size fridge and a gas powered stove. There was also a good gas heater which kept us warm at night. This glamping site exceeded our expectations in every possible way. We really felt that we were staying in the middle of the forest while staying in a proper accommodation. The site is super clean and well organized. There is on site parking. Reception has a small shop with a few items you can buy if you forget to bring some basics (though do not expect a big selection). You can also buy woods there should you wish to enjoy a campfire. There is also an on-site restaurant (though it has limited opening times). Check in / out was super fast and efficient. The location is unbeatable and if you are looking to spend time in nature and stay in a nice place at the same time which feels part of the environment then this is the place for you. Price wise, the place is a bit on the pricier side but we did not feel as if the price was unreasonable. We had a great time and would defiantly be happy to be back.

Pleasant stay if you don't bring your dog.

Reviewed By Go219580

We brought our dog with us on a first holiday but unfortunately the garden of the house was not fenced off. In closer inspection, many houses didn't have fencing. We had to buy a camping tow to leash our dog outside. Another aspect I didn't like was that you couldn't really do your daily walks with the dog as there weren't enough green areas to walk. Within the park the roads are narrow and busy. Most people walked their dogs outside the park along a busy straight road and along a narrow green verge. You cannot eat at the restaurant with the dog, not even outside, only have drinks. Everywhere you go there are signs saying don't walk your dog here.

Great and quiet!

Lovely pool although deep 1.35m. Indoor play area was also good. Outside parks were really good even in the freezing cold wind the kids loved them. The ‘homes’, were so nice. Warm and everything you’d need. The lamps, cushions and throws were such a lovely touch. It didn’t feel generic at all. Everything we received from the company was in Dutch which is obviously expected but it meant it was hard to do the forms they asked for I had to google translate constantly. I was on my phone I think on a computer you can change the flag! The bar and subsequently the indoor play area isn’t open Monday’s and Tuesdays. I didn’t know this before and the reception was also closed a lot. That was a shame as we couldn’t get the information. You can’t walk to the beach. Even from the parking area it’s a hilly walk but it was beautiful! Overall it was lovely and we’d come again.

Disturbing and dangerous experience

Reviewed By 362annijak

Our canooing experience turned from a fun event into a complete nightmare with a terrified 5 year old and frustration from both us parents. This company irresponsibly rented a canoe to us on a rather windy day even though we asked if the weather is suitable for this kind of adventure. They confirmed, took our payment, gave us the boat, and we went ahead. The first hour and a half we were doing quite all right since we had the wind in our backs. When we tried to get back 2 hours later, we couldn't move the canoe forward, kept crashing into the sides of the canals, and made very little progress moving forward. The wind was picking up, and after more than an hour trying to get back by ourselves, we realized this is pointless and called the company to explain the situation and hopefully be picked up by a motor boat as we were completely and utterly stuck with the wind blowing against us. The company picked up, put us on a long hold, we hung up eventually and called again. After a lot of back and forth, we got connected to the owner, who told us to try harder and just try to get back by ourselves, and accused us for clearly having lost the way even though we carefully followed the path and its signs. We tried again, and even though we are 2 quite capable people, we couldn't get much ahead. We turned back, got to a safer space, and called the police. They tried to figure out what to do, but eventually said they have no access to the spot we were in, and to call back the company and try to convince them to come pick us up. We called again, they refused, but eventually agreed that they could come only after closing time, which would be at least another 3,5 hour wait until they would get to us. Our 5 year old was scared, hungry, and cold. We were completely exhausted at that point. We hadn't seen a single boat for a long time, and finally noticed somebody coming our way. We waved at them and yelled for help, and 4 very nice ladies picked us up with a motor boat, and delivered us back to approximately the same spot we left, which took about hour and a half in total. We tied the canoe to the deck, and went to a nearby place called "Kanoschool Herbie Bird " to ask for some directions. The lady working there called Moniek was shocked to hear that De Kluft had rented canoos for us with this kind of weather, and that they also refused to come help us. She said only very experienced people can do it with this weather. We ended up leaving the canoe there and walking back to De Kluft to give back the safety vest. The receptionist seemed scared and apologetic, but the owner on the phone was utterly rude and irresponsible. This is his business and he did not care whatsoever about the safety or emergency situations for which he should be responsible for. If something happens to you on the water, know you will be left to deal with it alone. Never wrote a bad review in my entire life, but this calls for action.

We camped two nights in this great camping location and were very happy with our stay. The no noise policy was very well respected after 11pm which is when we got back and we even slept in until 9am as everyone was sleeping in. The bike rental was super efficient and the staff very helpful and welcoming. Great location near to city center and breakfast and dinner were yummy too. We recommend this camping and will come back again soon.
