The best available Bed and Breakfast Inns to stay near Venice

April 27, 2023 Augustus Redeker

For centuries Venice has been defined by its otherworldly presence. Divided into six sestieri (districts), the city is split by the Grand Canal, snaking through Venice in a backwards “S” formation. Water here is a means of communication, connecting its parts as well as opening the city to the outside world. People move themselves and cargo by foot and boats of all types. A city of great contrasts, the strength and beauty of Venice are perpetually challenged by its great fragility – constant study, repair, resourcefulness, and vigilance maintain a very delicate balance here.

Very good superbly located hotel

Reviewed By timH9037MQ

Very good three star hotel, will return. The location is superb with excellent Giudecca canal views. The staff are pleasant, helpful and efficient. The included breakfast is above three star standard, with good ingredients. We had the panoramic room on the top floor which has good views and even a balcony, which strangely is off the bathroom. There is no lift. The only thing that needs improving is that the hall and staircases are shabby and need redecorating. In them, the stair carpets are threadbare and not as clean as they should be. They need to be replaced. But the fact that we shall return despite the staircase problem says it all. It was a very good choice for us.

Ca' Gottardi

In the heart of Venice, just around the corner from Ca' d'Oro and the Casino, Ca' Gottardi's superior location is one of the best. Its rooms and ambiance aspire to be one of the most sophisticated structures in Venice where traditional art and innovative design combine in a rare elegance. Ca' Gottardi provides charming accommodations, each unique, in the most elegant Maison de Charme style. Its interiors are the result of an attention to details with regard to materials and techniques and a heightened sensitivity in approaching forms and volumes in accordance with Venetian artistic tradition. Clean and modern design is reflected in the entrance stairway of pure white marble and balustrade in crystal, where light creates unique effects. In addition to the piano nobile, guests are welcomed with a unique elegance, in which the creativity of Italian design enriched by a touch of luxury that is typical of the great patrician residences. Ca' Gottardi occupies the main floor of an antique Venetian palace from the XV century, then known as Ca' Priuli. Ca' Gottardi overlooks the Rio de Noal with a balcony covered by a beautiful late 17-th century quadrifora window. From here, you can admire Ca' Pesaro to your right, today the home of the Modern Art Gallery. Here are Ca' Gottardi's rooms, a world of class and refinement, for an unforgettable stay. Furnishings have been crafted by experts, in the classical Venetian 18th-century style, and evoke that noble elegance that has made Venice famous throughout Europe. Fine brocade curtains and carpets provide a warm contrast to a light-filled ambience created by the high ceilings and large windows. The world-famous art of glass is displayed in the chandeliers, the appliqués and in the gold-framed mirrors. Parquet floors in African woods in warm tones of red and brown are laid with rich soft carpeting.

Awesome location. Would visit again

Just returned from our stay at Ca Gottardi. Great location in between Rialto bridge and Jewish Ghetto. We got the Alilaguna from the airport to F.Nove and walked. Approx 15 minute walk. Ok as only had hand luggage. Purchased tickets at airport. 15 euro each. On entrance to hotel you have to walk up some stairs to reception. Hotel reception and lobby area is lovely and reception is 24 hours. We had a standard room and it was much bigger than expected. The hotel provides shower gel, shampoo, soap and body lotion. Hairdryer also in room and it’s powerful so I was relieved as I have long hair. We didn’t purchase breakfast but went to Co-op Supermarket located just over the bridge near hotel. We purchased fruit and water (much cheaper than buying out and kept the fridge stocked in the room) We would definitely stay again. Only negatives - shower temperature changed if someone else ran tap and it gets hot Wifi kept dropping out but we had enough data anyway. The room was very warm as weather was nice and the air con was temperamental. The towel radiator was on very high so when we realised turned it down. Tips The hotel balcony is small but great to watch the world go by outside Pre book restaurants if you want to ensure a table or if not go late (9:30). If not you will queue outside or be turned away. St Marks Basilica - 3 euro entrance but big queue (moved reasonably fast) or you can pay 6 euros and skip the line but prebook online. When we arrived all slots for the day had gone. Gondola - they are 80 euro for half an hour. If you want to experience the gondola for a few mins at 2 euro look for the traghetto gondolas. We had to wear FFP2 non valved masks when boarding the water bus in Venice and in most public places inc supermarket. The water bus will refuse you on board without one. I don’t know if rules are changing anytime soon.

A friendly hotel with a great location

Reviewed By Simon F

We really liked this hotel. True, there is not a full time reception, but we found the Italian gentleman running the place was always available when we needed him. More importantly he was very polite and friendly and able to help with a few questions we had. Your breakfast can be taken in your romm (at no extra charge) or on the small terrace. I think the options are a little less now because of covid but it was perfectly good enough for us. The location is great right in San Marco and very quiet. It is a 3 minute walk from Campo Santo Stefano which is a nice square with several restaurants and a pleasant 10 minute stroll to St. Marks square.

If you want to be really in Venice, feel the atmosphere of this unique city and listen to real Venetian stories from a person whose family has lived here for several hundred years - stay with Eleanor, at B&B Al Teatro! The hostess makes great coffee, serves tasty breakfasts, invites you to clean, comfortable rooms and is able to memorize all the necessary information, including the vaporetto timetable. B&B Al Teatro is the most Venetian place to stay in Venice! We were here for the second time and we intend to come back in the future. Anna & Piotr (Poland)

Disappointing check out.

Nice place - Excellent location, clean/comfortable rooms, and a good shower. However, the checkout experience was very poor. We returned the keys in the morning and left our bags there for the day as we were flying home late, which was no problem. Later in the evening when at the airport I got an email from the manager claiming we did not return the keys to them and that they would need to change the locks on the room door/front door and get multiple copies of the keys made which would cost 200 EUR. I wrote back immediately explaining that we did return the keys to the lady who was there at checkout. I then checked my bank to discover they had already pre-charged the 200 EUR out of my account!! The next day the manager emailed me apologising and said that they had found the keys in the end. When I replied he said the payment had already been cancelled and to contact my bank. The problem is at the time of writing that 200 EUR is still ‘pending’ in my back and cannot be accessed 4 days later. This was their mistake, and they should be a lot more diligent in these kinds of situations before charging people such a large sum of money. This has left a bad taste one what was otherwise an enjoyable stay, and a stressful end to our visit to Venice.

Wonderful little hotel!

Reviewed By Siskin123

Tucked away in a quiet area, but still only a short walk from the main places like Rialto Bridge, this is an absolute gem of a hotel. We stayed in a superior room with balcony, which gives you a little extra room (Venetian hotel rooms can be a little on the small side). Lovely to sit out on the balcony for morning coffee. The host, Andrea was absolutely lovely, and very helpful. If you want a place that is small, quiet, comfortable and clean, then this is the place to be!
