Lovely High Quality B&B

Reviewed By JonathanRippon

This B&B really doesn't need any more good reviews but it is excellent. You get a very friendly welcome when you arrive. Breakfast is great and of a high standard. Kelvin even found some marmite for me ! WiFi is good and you'll probably need it as mobile phone signal isn't as it's in a gorge. Driving into the property is a little tricky as it's down a road to the gorge and on a corner but as long as you reverse up 10yards and drive in you're fine (Kelvin does tell you clearly before you arrive).

Wonderful Welcome

Reviewed By U7205CYsophiew

As soon as we arrived we were made to feel incredibly welcome. Room was spacious and bed was comfortable. Our dog was also made to feel very welcome and had her own ‘dogs dinner’ in the restaurant with us! We ate in the restaurant and were really impressed with the variety and quality of the food. We had starters, mains, pudding and cheese (which we never normally do) because it was so delicious! Breakfast was very delicious too.

Will be back to visit for a 3rd time :)

Our 2nd visit - we will be back for a 3rd :) We found this pub with rooms last year & were placed in the same room out of 11 on this occasion. It’s very close to the funfair & has a charming village green and tyre swing with parking both in front of the pub The rooms and beds are lovely and have everything you could expect to be provided. Plenty of tea and coffee also. Quality beds & a lovely hot power shower over a bath. We ate breakfast and evening meals here twice. Excellent breakfast & more than ample choice for dinner which was provided quickly given how busy the pub was. No complaints about the food whatsoever, we were all very happy. The food was delicious & hot. Great staff - we missed saying hi to Wendy this time as she wasn’t working on this visit. The other managers & staff were all excellent however with no complaints at all, they couldn’t do enough for their guests and service with a smile throughout. Special mention must be made of Morgan who was an absolute star & my children loved him! A real asset to our visit. I came a lot to Porthcawl fair as a child , but had not been back for some years until last year, due to family bereavements of those who took me , meaning I am the eldest left in my family and a single mum of 2. I am so glad I brought my children to the fair and that we found this gem of a pub with rooms to stay in. Even though we are going to Florida later this summer, all my children had asked me to do is go back to Porthcawl & to stay here!!! I am so glad we stayed here again. We can’t wait to come back and maybe our 3rd visit to room 1 Happy customers 5*

Outstanding pub/restaurant

Reviewed By Sumsetguy

We had two excellent meals here whilst staying in the adjacent Marston’s hotel. Duty manager Emily was really friendly and provided excellent service during our breakfast visit. Food at breakfast was of a high quality and the continental section was continually replenished. Having been extremely impressed with breakfast service we decided to have our evening meal here also. Upon arrival for our evening meal duty manager Jannine was very helpful and ensured we were seated promptly in the restaurant. Our floor server Shianne was excellent throughout and the food was of a very high quality. This is an outstanding pub/restaurant which was impeccably clean throughout and has an interesting and varied menu. I would highly recommend to all.

Very disappointing ☹️

Reviewed By Julieb688

My husband and I visited on a Saturday night for a bite to eat at this new venue, looking forward to a good night out. However it was such a let down. After the initial order of drinks, further drinks ordered never came. After 15mins, my husband went to the bar, bumping into our waitress, who said she had forgot. When ordering our meal, I told the waitress that my husband was lactose intolerant. She gave us an Allergy menu, so my husband ordered meatballs. They came with cheese all over the top and a card that stated an allergy for the table! So, we sent them back. The mains came, hubby ordered steak and chips. The chips were very undercooked. But, with only 2 staff on, it was impossible to get someone to change the chips, so he just ate the steak, totally unacceptable. A waitress came to clear the table, surprised at what was left. I told her that we couldn't get anyone's attention to complain, to which she appologised. Manager came and offered us free deserts, saying that they were understaffed this evening, but by then we had had enough, so declined. He did take our drinks off the menu, which was nice, and couldn't apologise enough. We were sat in a booth, with wooden seating, sooo uncomfortable, cushions would have been a good idea, my backside was square by the time we left!! Needless to say, I can't see us coming back, so I cannot recommend this place. It was 2 thirds full, and they just could not cope. Other tables were frustrated waiting for food and to pay their bill. I can only hope that these are teething issues, that can be resolved, and that this will be a place that people can enjoy in the future.
