Las Cumbres Eco Hotel

Great hotel to see the area

Reviewed By akmassager

I stayed here for three nights and loved the place! Our rooms (we moved rooms after the first night) both had jacuzzis that pumped in hot volcano heated mineral water. Some rooms have an in room sauna that is heated by volcano vapor. Also in the mornings between 7 and 9 and in the evenings between 830 and 1030 you can use the vapor rooms in their spa area for free. The beds were super comfortable and the rooms were beautiful. We ate a lot of meals at the restaurant which was also affordable. There’s a spa there but the massage I got felt like someone who went to massage school for a month (I’m a massage therapist, I should know.) Other than that a great stay! Tip: cheaper rate if you deal directly with the hotel BUT you better know Spanish!

Amazing!

Amazing hostal, run by the most friendly persons! We loved every bit of our stay. The rooms are spacious and clean, so are the kitchen and other facilities. The owners are really helpful and know a lot about things to do in Xela and Guate in general. Definitely recommend staying here! Voor de dutchies: vergeet vooral niet om stroopwafels mee te nemen! Ze zijn er dol op! :-)

Perfect choice.

I stayed here for four nights whilst doing some hiking around Xela. The location is perfect, just a couple of minutes walk from the main square, bars and restaurants. It’s very quiet which is lovely and the rooms are comfortable and practical. Plenty of space for my things. There was a small TV in the room and excellent WiFi. Everything was spotlessly clean and the kitchen is very well equipped. Microwave, kettle, free drinking water, oven, fridge, etc. As I was making sandwiches to eat whilst hiking the lady placed name labels in the fridge to identify my things. Excellent and well recommended choice.

AVOID

On 16 November 2019 I made a booking for room 9 for 27-28 January 2020 through Casa Elizabeth’s own website. This reservation was confirmed by e-mail by both Mario Herrera and Silvana Contreras. Fast forward to 27 January 2020. After a long trip from Flores via Guatemala City I arrive at Casa Elizabeth and you can guess what happened! My twice-confirmed reservation was nowhere to be seen. Fortunately, I had a printed copy of it to prove to them that indeed I had made a booking. A couple of phone calls later I am given room number 5 (very dark and lots of traffic noise, like all rooms in the ground floor). Moraleja: I would totally give this place a miss until they get the basics right.

Basic, clean hotel with secure parking

Reviewed By tsmada

The Hamilton's rooms are small and clean. Our room had a table with chair in the entry; that was the only chair in the room. There is no closet, only hooks on the wall. I understood it is a budget hotel so a comfortable bed, secure parking, hot water, and WiFi were the only requirements. LIght sleepers should be aware that barking dogs may be a problem. My complaint is this: I reserved a room for one person but my Guatemalan goddaughter accompanied me. I fully expected an increase in the rate, which was $24.40 for the night for one person. That is 170 Guatemalan Quetzales. When I checked in I asked what the increase would be but the young man couldn't tell me (this was all in Spanish). I asked later and got the same answer. When I checked out the next morning, the owner told me the additional charge would be 388 Quetzales--or $55.00--more than double the price for one person. I protested and she reduced the charge to Q308 or US$44.00. I should have done the math but we were running late and I needed to get on the road. Result: I will NEVER stay here again and I cannot recommend this hotel. As the Spanish expression goes, this was a "robo sin pistola"--a robbery without a gun. As a comparison, the next night I stayed at a hotel in Guatemala City for which I pre-paid $58. The additional person was $20.00, a perfectly reasonable additional charge.

By far the worst

My wife and I have stayed here numerous times over the last 20 years. And every time in room 313. Since the owner past away the hotel has progressively gotten worse. The mattresses are so bad I wouldn't let my worst enemy sleep on. Not to mention the toilet drain and shower drain are connected, what a smell. But this time it was soooo bad!!! To top it of, against my wife's wish I booked one nite. At a price of $38 as agreed upon by phone to my surprise they wanted $85. What an insult. Guess I was agree but when I looked around carpets the same after 20 years, kites falling off wall, I was the fool Never again!!!!!! Please try it to believe it.

A home'y vibe in the middle of the City

Reviewed By 151chaysem

Even though we visited during COVID times (in July 2021) the hotel still had such a charming vibe. The hospitality was on par. The location is wonderful. And the terrace is BEAUTIFUL! I hope to revisit post covid! Alejandra, one of the clerks, was so sweet. She helped organize a massage for us and was very accommodating!
