Wonderful stay! The staff is very friendly and the property is very unique and welcoming. Very close to many food options and close to Malecon. I stayed in one of the suites and it was extremely comfortable. I was solo, but would be a very romantic stay for a couple.

First Visit to Ajijic

Our stay at Casa del Sol offered comfort, convenience and service that went far beyond our expectations. This place is so nice and peaceful. The property is very well cared for and nicely appointed. Our room was quite comfortable and had a balcony that overlooked the beautiful pool area. Breakfast was great, especially Sunday brunch. Elizabeth and her staff were exceptional in making us feel at home. As well, they were quite helpful to us as we planned our daily explorations of the town and surrounding area. When we visit the Ajijic again (and we will) I hope that we will be able to stay at Casa del Sol.

Hotel with many old guests, on beautiful, tranquil beach

Reviewed By gudo143

Negative: bed and blanket synthetic (sweaty nights for me); obnoxious chemical smell of air-fresheners in room and hotel corridors; no staff at reception; sometimes long waiting times at lunch in restaurant; no cushions avaiable for the hard beach loungers; no parasols on the beach available that can be moved, so one has to stay under the fixed parasols by the hotel, in close proximity to the other guests; no ice-cream in the restaurant; no solo-travellers in hotel, mainly eldlerly Mexican and America couples; no grocery stores nearby; rec Positive: very beautiful, quiet sandy beach with coconut palm trees; yummy food in restaurant; small hotel; colourful walls in rooms

No reservation

First a bit of context. My wife is from central Mexico and I am from the Midwest USA. We live and work in central Mexico. Before COVID, we traveled extensively throughout North America and Europe. We are both bilingual and bicultural. We had a trip to Guadalajara planed for New Years and we decided to leave a day early to see Ajijic. We did not have reservations. My wife looked on line for a hotel during our 5 hour drive. She noticed that the prices that on the website that offers reviews and prices from several booking services were rising as she continued to look, so we decided to go directly to the hotels in which we were interested. Hotel Lindo Ajijic was the first hotel we went to, they had a room and parking. The price that they gave us was half of what we were seeing online. The hotel is beautiful!! The gardens, the pool, the hot tub, the guest common areas, and the kitchen area are all extraordinary. The neighborhood is very nice and quiet. The streets are well maintained (this is very important in Ajijic as most of the pueblito is horrible). The staff was excellent. One of the best features was the kitchen area. In the morning the staff prepares breakfast for the guests and it is wonderful. The rest of the day, the area is open to the guests to prepare their own food. Also, the area has a beautiful view of the pool area, garden, and a bit of the lake. We were in room 5. It was very nice and smartly decorated and clean. The bathroom was a bit tight but all the doors opened completely. Now the reasons I did not give the hotel 5 stars. The air conditioner made horrible noises, grinding, banging, and squealing to name a few. The noise seemed to be cyclical as the noise would stop and a short period of time later, would resume in the same pattern. The noise was such that it was difficult to sleep and it would wake you up. The window did not open, so your options were to deal with the noise or the heat. When we checked out, we informed the staff about the noise. They acted surprised and said they would check into it. The staff had to know about the noise as the room is above the reception desk. Also, the sheets were quite itchy and uncomfortable. The pueblito Ajijic was a huge disappointment, especially close to the lake. My wife and I travel extensively throughout Mexico and have visited many of the pueblitos mágicos and there was no magic in this pueblito; other than some consider it magical. It is dirty, there was dog feces on every street, garbage, and no control of the traffic or parking. I doubt that we will ever return to Ajijic but if we do, Hotel Lindo Ajijic will be our first choice. Note: we did meet another couple that told us that the other pueblitos in the area are much nicer, that the original residents did not want to change anything in their pueblito.

Noisy, dark rooms with door that doesn’t close/lock properly and office unresponsive/uncollaborativr

Reviewed By annemariev849

Casa Ritual looked charming and confortable. Upon arrival we quickly realized this is not was we were getting. Although the common spaces are charming, the premium bedroom is small, dark, and extremely noisy: you hear the upstairs guests as if they were in your room, as well as the neighbouring family’s kids and dogs, and the planes. In addition, our bedroom door didn’t close properly, insects could easily get it or worst thieves. As soon as we realized that, we raised our concerns and asked if there was another room available, but we were told they were sold out. We decided to leave as we would not be able to relax and feel comfortable there. We offered to pay for our first night, even if we stayed less than an hour and only had booked our reservation 24h in advance, but asked to be reimbursed for the 2 others as we understand the hotel’s non reimbursement policy for no shows, but it isn’t fair to keep one’s money when the service is not at all what it’s supposed to be. They said they couldn’t do it on the spot because their system was closed but that they would contact us the next day, we went back a couple days later during the time the system was open and they said they had to check with accounting, we have followed up with them 3 times now and they now redirected us to accounting directly, which is not answering…. You can imagine we don’t expect to be reimbursed at all unfortunately.

Relaxing, romantic setting

Reviewed By melgab84

If you are looking to get away from it all, Hotel Mayto is definitely for you. First, my room was amazing. I stayed in the newer building in room 16, and although it was on the ground floor it still had a view of the ocean as the building is on a hill. The room felt very fresh, crisp white linens and plush pillows. HUGE walk in shower with “rain” shower head. Separate room for the toilet. They provide soap, lotion, and shampoo. My favourite part of the room, which was such a pleasant surprise, was the mini fridge which was stocked with all manner of drinks and snacks. Cans of Modelo, Pacifica, Corona light, packages of Pringles, chocolate bars, a mini bottle of tequila, water, etc. There is a price list on top of the fridge, all items were reasonably priced. There are sliding glass doors and windows above to let a lot of light in, and a small patio out front with a table and two chairs. I only tried the shrimp burger at the restaurant, but it was very good. Drinks were tasty as well. They have a warm pool, many palapas at the pool and on the beach, and a couple Bali beds. There was a small shop behind the lobby, but I did not investigate it. I don’t speak Spanish well and most of the staff seemed to not speak much English, but I got by just fine. The only problem I could find seems to be a common one with other travellers- the strange “chit” based system of doling out internet pass codes. I don’t have a problem with the internet service being spotty as you are out in the middle of nowhere, but getting kicked off the internet and having to go get another code is slightly annoying. Other than that, amazing stay at Hotel Mayto!

We stayed for two weeks and loved every day we were there. The staff kept the place spotless, beds were comfortable and the Breakfast provided each morning was a great way to start the day. The staff in the breakfast area keep the food well stocked and kept bringing out more hot food when it got low. The pool is small but worked for me and had a great view from the roof top. The hotel is about a minute walk from the beach, Tons of shops, restaurants, and vendors just outside the door. The Malecon walkway was about 5 minutes away and is about 1 and 1/2 miles long. I will definitely come back

Grace took care of our Covid tests for customs, Marvin took care of our luggage and cocktails around the pool upon arrival, and Jesus with numerous coffee and ice water requests the following morning at breakfast. The sheets are silky soft cotton, the pillows a perfect choice of soft/firm, the bath towels are luscious bath sheets, the pool water a perfect temperature to luxuriate, the pool towels a separate style and plentiful, the fruit at breakfast so very fresh, the croissants warm and buttery, the coffee superb. We didn’t want to ever leave.
