Lovely stay and beautiful hotel

Reviewed By ceppie

We had a lovely few days in this hotel. The grounds are really well maintained with beautiful tress and flowers. Our spacious bedroom had a perfect view of the marina and beach. The bed was really comfortable and room was very clean. The bathroom was a little small but spotless and cleaned daily. Staff at the hotel were so friendly and helpful. We sat out on the terrace each morning having a delicious breakfast from the buffet. We had dinner one evening from the buffet. There was no a la carte menu unfortunately. The buffet wasn’t great but there was a wide choice. The wine selection was good though. The buffet dinner is the only negative thing I found about the hotel. The beach location was great and there are a few (3/4) restaurants nearby namely Mhamai and Jaracanda. I didn’t like the menu in Victory next door which was a pity as it’s next door. I would definitely recommend this hotel on a bed and breakfast basis.

A rip off. No value for money, uneatable food and not a 4 star at all

Reviewed By giorgionet

To be as objective as possible, let's start from the few pros. The beach is quite nice and most of the staff are extremely kind and do their best to ensure a good stay. Special thanks to Ornella from the restaurant patio (we really miss you), Morgan and Toni (Maitre and Deputy Maitre), Margherita, Alessandra and all the bar staff. The entertainment team is headed by the great Fabio who works round the clock to make guests happy. But...we paid approximately Euro 500 per day (approximately 3000 per week) to get: - a cramped room in desperate need of renovation, very claustrophobic with no window and light only coming from the front door (the "quadruple" "garden" room - where the space if for maximum 2 people and the "garden" are a few blades of grass at the entrance door). Many 2 star hotels have far better rooms; - the WORST POSSIBLE FOOD EVER. You eat far better in many canteens and we still wonder how they managed to find vegetables and fruit tasting like platic in full summer in Sardinia. Many guests complained about the quality of food and allegedly this is due to a change in the kitchen staff. However, it was totally unacceptable and it was pretty clear that they were buying the cheapest possible raw material (Emmenthal cheese in Sardinia! Frozen burgers, tasteless ricotta...); - the "thematic restaurants" are in reality inexistent. "Gusto" (supposedly their "gourmet" restaurant) is a bunch of chair next to the reception desk, with pre-heated horrible food wich is clearly made of the left-overs of the main canteen restaurant. The beach restaurant is a joke: a small barbecue with a few pieces of sausage and reallty little more on offer, a tiny salad bar and some sliced fruit. - endless queues everywhere. We had to stay in line for anything: food, drinks, beach towels, trips. The management tries to justify it with Covid-related measures. In reality, this is just due to an evident understaffing. Covid measures are a joke: sunbeds on the beach are very little distanced, there are crowdings and queues everywhere and they take your temperature only when you go to the restaurant for breakfast (apparently the virus doesn't like lunch and dinner times). Very stressful and absolutely unacceptable for this price tag, even during peak season in August; - totally inadequate reception staff. Most of them are very junior trainees who dont' have a clue about pretty much anything (and many of them are not locals, hence unfamiliar with the area); - absence of a facility manager/resort director. Many guests wanted to complain about many aspects but were redirected to junior trainees; - ridiculous organization for payments: you can only pay for drinks with the top up card you get at reception (and any included drinks are only visible on 1 card). All the rest is to be paid CASH!!! We were asked to pay CASH for car rentals (130 a day for a Opel Corsa, super overpriced), trips, horse riding, towel deposit, etc...); - the swimming pools and most of the resort facilities are very old and would need renovation. There was a terrible sewer stink coming from the children pool for most of the time (3 weeks) we were there; - the SPA is a sort of hut with plastic doors and walls where my wife had the (pricey) worst manicure and pedicure of her life; - if you don't have a car, you are in prison (and not at all a golden jail). The resort is in the middle of nowhere, there is only a small overpriced shop and renting a car comes at sky high price, with very little availability in peak season; We feel very deceived, it was a total rip off (not at all a 4 star) and definitely the first and last time we book a holiday with the Blu Serena group. Avoid it all costs. A last note: we would not recommend Calaserena to anyone, but if you are not Italian it could even be a worse nightmare, as most of the staff doesn't speak English and everything is strictly focused on domestic customers.

Lovely beach...

Reviewed By chch00007

Alma Resort is deserved of its 4 star status. The accommodation is clean, fresh and comfortable and the air conditioner is quite and highly effective. The resort is fairly large and it’s highly probable that you’ll be situated as much as a 10 minute walk from the absolutely stunning beach. There are lots of beach chairs but beware, the ones that are situated closest to the sea are all reserved and it’s likely that you’ll end up at the back with no view of the sea or your children. The pool is small by 4 star standards and be prepared to listen to non-stop Italian pop if you choose pool over the sea. My only real issue with the report of the price they charge for the buffet lunch - €30! I recommend you drive or walk to one of superb local pizzeria or seafood restaurants and have your food freshly prepared for a lot less cash! Overall not bad, but I’m interested to check out some of the other resorts when I’m next in Sardinia.

Very pleasant small b&b

Reviewed By marcopolo1964

Domu Elvira is a very pleasant b&b on a quiet street in Muravera. Our room was small, but the size didn't really matter because it gave out onto a courtyard full of flowers where you could lounge on chairs and couches. Breakfast is quite good by Italian standards. The staff is very friendly. If i had one complaint it's that the rooms could be a bit more charming. They are spotlessly clean and comfortable, and we slept well, but the furniture is that antiseptic white Italian furniture you find in many Italian budget hotels. It's not a big deal, and hardly took away from our stay, but it would turn a very good place into an excellent one. Muravera is a pleasant town, near some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. You will need a car to get to them, however. The best ones are the other side of Capo Ferrato, a good 20 minute drive, but we didn't find any nice accommodation in that area. All in all, this is an excellent choice to explore this beautiful corner of Sardinia.

Tanca Irde

Hotel Tanca Irde is located on a small hill between the mountains and the sea, within the area of Capoterra and only a few kilometres from Cagliari and its airport. The hotel, which is open all year round, is surrounded by ample grounds containing a swimming pool and private carpark. It offers its customers a cosy and home-like environment, ideal for spending a relaxing holiday. From the hotel, which is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and Mediterranean undergrowth, visitors are able to admire from a distance the view of Cagliari and its surrounding golf. The hotel’s central position within the south-eastern coast of Sardinia allows it to be a strategic point for those who would like to get to know the southern part of the island, or for those who are visiting Cagliari on business. The hotel is only a few kilometres from the beautiful beaches of Nora, the first Punic city of Sardinia, and Chia, a stunning stretch of white sandy beach and small intimate bays. The hotel is also only two kilometres away from the vast WWF natural park of Monte Arcosu, inhabited by sardinian deer, and one kilometre away from the acquatic oasis of the Santa Gilla marshes where flamingos and numerous other species of water bird nest.

Helps if you speak Italian.

Reviewed By NjReluctantTraveler

If you speak Italian, you'll be better off. Only the owner's son, who worked nights, could speak English. The hotel has about 10 rooms situated around a courtyard, but has a big pool and a big restaurant. We had a nice lunch in the restaurant, despite them being out of a lot of stuff (it was past the tourist season), and despite them being very busy with what looked like a road construction crew that was working nearby. Surprisingly, they had a couple of menus in English, so we didn't need to rely on Google Translate. Unfortunately, the rooms were without had soap and cups. Any they have no laundry facilities, but they provide drying racks outside the rooms if you want to wash your clothes in the sink. Overall, it was a good value for what we wanted (specific location close to relatives).
