Country Riding Centre

Looking for a riding holiday? The riding school provides for all tastes, be it a gentle hack through the scenic hillsides with magnificent views across Silves to the Monchique Mountains, Portimão and beyond, or a gallop along the almost forgotten tracks through orange and lemon groves and eucalyptus forests, or even a swim on horseback in the lake.

I first visited the Country Riding Centre about 7 years ago, so this was a must for our first time back in Silves since. I'm not a rider. I've sat on a tame horse a few times, but the lovely ladies here really put you at your ease. We went for a one hour beginners stroll. The scenery is beautiful. The stable yard is lovely. The horses are obviously well cared for and loved. Try to go early as it gets so hot. Also, long trousers and long sleeves are advisable. They provide boots and hats. Do it! You won't regret it. Even if you feel a bit nervous about being up on a horse.

Me and my family visited and it was an experience to remember , the tour guide was so friendly and polite , he also was very generous and let us take home loads of oranges and he made us fresh orange juice. He seemed to love his job which made us feel like we were being educated by someone that was passionate about what they do which made a huge difference. I would highly recommend visiting the farm as I learnt a lot and enjoyed myself. I couldn’t pick a single fault with the experience.

Municipio de Silves

The SILVES MEDIEVAL FAIR takes place in August, in the historic centre of this Algarve city. Ten days of historical re-enactment of the medieval era of the ancient capital of the Kingdom of the Algarve. Silves Municipal Council, the fair's organiser, continues its support of this nationally renowned event, which promises to be one of the most exciting events on the region's summer calendar.

(Actually visited with my sister and adult daughter but for some reason trip advisor doesn't give just a 'family' option ????‍♀️) Silves was really one of the highlights of our recent trip to the Algarve. We first visited on a coach trip historical tour but had less than an hour there, we decided there was much more we wanted to see/do/photograph so we made a decision to visit again by local bus from Albufeira. Lots of nice shops selling things you don't see in the more popular towns, beautiful buildings and nice historical places to visit that cost a couple of €'s We visited the castle, archeology museum and cathedral as well as the roman bridge and walked to the cross of Portugal on the outskirts of town. We had lovely Bifanas in a cafe for just €1.75 and the absolute best thing about it all was the Storks nesting everywhere! Such a beautiful place. would be an absolute dream to live in such a place.

Have been to Silves Castle before but the condition of it now is greatly improved. We were able to walk around all the ramparts easily. Handrails have been added on some sections for added security. The admission fee was reasonable and overall its a credit to Silves...

This is impressive, well organized and planned. On 3 levels that progress in time from the Iron Age (6th Century to today). The well was only discovered in 1990. I was pleasantly surprised and not bored, well done!

This beautiful beach never fails to impress. Always so peaceful, always spotlessly clean. And so many wonderful restaurants close by where I love so sit and watch the surfers or just soak up the salty Atlantic air. Bliss

A hidden paradise in the hills of Silves- although in reality it’s a marvellous man made dam its looks just like a natural lake not to dissimilar to Lake Windermere. It’s peaceful, unspoilt beuty locate in the tranquil hills surrounded by natural beauty and amazing vistas in all directions.
