Fairfield Nature Reserve

Reviewed By LancNS

I visit the Fairfield Nature Reserve often, and it's a place I always take visitors to the city. It's a lovely green space, suitable for all. There's various paths to take, benches to sit on, exploring to be had, and my kids love the nearby playpark, plopping little stones into Lucy Brook, and playing in the Orchard.

Trough of Bowland

Please keep this stunning part of England a secret. It is the most gorgeous place - small villages and rolling countryside in one instance then broody hills and windy fella the next.

Lancaster Canal

Reviewed By callumsn0na - Aberdeen, United Kingdom

Have cruised this canal a few times now, twice with The Duck Island Boat Company. First time 6 years ago was aboard Picollo, a luxurious widebeam boat for 2. Second time was on Legato, again luxurious but this time a narrowboat that accomodated ourselves, friends and our wee dog Jack. Eamonn and Elaine are a lovely couple who welcome you and see you on your way safely. The canal is lovely, Garstang to Tewitfield is our favourite stretch. So much beauty, so many lovely places, lovely friendly welcome everywhere and lovely restaurants all over the place...so much food and too few days to try it all! I would highly recommend this laidback holiday to everyone and would most definitely recommend Eamonn and Elains Duck Island Boat Company as they are the best we have been on! (and thats been a fair few over the years). Go for it folks, you won't regret it!

Giggles Play and Adventure Centre

Larger than most soft play venues with very friendly staff who keep on top of the cleaning. There are many food tables and with so many children you can expect a mess but the staff are there and cleaning up immediately, so no stickiness. The food is very well presented and good value and there is a fantastic choice of ice creams and ice cream sundaes. On admission you can opt for a meal deal which when added to the cost of play gives a good discount. They also have a loyalty card scheme for regular visitors. I often take my granddaughter for lunch and as the area is well enclosed and secure I can let her run around and play with no worries. The staff are lovely with the children and the customer service is excellent.

Ashton Hall Garden Centre

Reviewed By Eagle-Eyes-64 - Wilmslow, United Kingdom

Popped in for a snack and a mooch about with my Mum as I don’t usually eat much at lunchtime - chose the Cheese Salad, with Farmer’s Pickle which sounded delicious and a reasonable size... Mum chose Baked Potato with Salad. When they came mine was ginormous???? but utterly delicious! Huge chunks of Cheddar, shredded carrot (with a strange combination of currents too, which I picked out, but I guess some may like), loads of salad, coleslaw, great portion of ham and service with a huge smile☺️ The waitress saw my reaction to the size and said “You could always take home what you don’t eat!” I had asked for an extra portion of the pickle but I’d advise against that as it was very sweet, more like sweet chutney... Again, some may love it, but I wanted a tart pickly taste, which this wasn’t. This restaurant/cafe is delightful and the food is wonderful and certainly not on the stingy size like some - all padded up with salad! You really get your money’s worth! Service is quick and very friendly and dogs are allowed outside on the gravelled patio area - no umbrellas up yet though, so no shade yet. Highly recommend for a quick lunch and all the bedding plants are out and fabulously easy to view!
