The 9 Best Museums in Covent Garden, England

October 8, 2021 Veronika Gaddis

The crown jewels, Buckingham Palace, Camden Market…in London, history collides with art, fashion, food, and good British ale. A perfect day is different for everyone: culture aficionados shouldn't miss the Tate Modern and the Royal Opera House. If you love fashion, Oxford Street has shopping galore. For foodies, cream tea at Harrod’s or crispy fish from a proper chippy offers classic London flavor. Music and book buffs will love seeing Abbey Road and the Sherlock Holmes Museum (at 221B Baker Street, of course).

Freemasons' Hall

Freemasons’ Hall has been the centre of English Freemasonry for over 240 years. It is the meeting place for over 1,000 Masonic Lodges and the headquarters of the United Grand Lodge of England, the first Grand Lodge in the world. The building, which is Grade II* listed, dates from 1927-1933, and has a richly decorated interior. The architects were H V Ashley and F Winton Newman. When the Grand Temple is not in use there are up to five tours per day. These tours are free, and each starts in the Library and Museum. Visitors should bring photographic ID which may be required to be shown before the tour commences. Please note: Freemasons’ Hall is not open on Sundays, public holidays, the Saturday preceding a Monday public holiday, or over the Christmas / New Year period. It is also not possible to hold tours when there are major events happening, some of which are arranged at short notice. If you are making a special trip to visit Freemasons' Hall then please contact us first.

As a Freemason it is worth while visiting, it is a totally free tour and for those sceptical of masons please come and have a look around. It is a fantastic building in the centre of London, with plenty of restaurants and bars nearby.

Old fashioned street with book stores and small art stores. Collectors books available from Alice in Wonderland. My favourite shop with two floors was the holistic and religious book shop. Sadly on a Saturday it appears that about 8 of the shops were closed. But worth a visit and imagine you are in Harry Potter or living a century ago

Tours can be hit and miss at the best of times, but add in the complexity of a virtual tour hosted by Zoom and the inherent issues you might expect with wifi issues etc and you'd be forgiven for having low expectations. When I reached out to arrange a virtual tour I was worried about how it would go but I needn't have worried. The tour was fantastic and I must say it was made all the better by having Tara Griffin as the tour guide - her knowledge and passion shone through and she made us feel as if we were right there with her and not on the other side of the world. Thoroughly enjoyed by all of us who attended. Thank you Tara.

The London Film Museum - Covent Garden

The London Film Museum Covent Garden is now dedicated to the Bond in Motion Collection - the largest official collection of original James Bond vehicles.

Reviewed By Intavia - Horley, United Kingdom

Located next door to the London Transport Museum, from the outside it looks rather insignificant, but step inside and you are greeted with a small shop area and entry to the exhibits is down a staircase to a maze of rooms and areas which exquisitely position an amazing collection of cars, vehicles, memorabilia and objects from the many James Bond films. You can pay £5 for an audio presentation, which is like a small mobile phone into which you type the number of the exhibit and receive an interesting background and reminder of the Bond film to set the scene. Adjacent to some exhibits you can watch the film footage too. It's all very well set up and a very enjoyable experience. There is also a small seating area and cafe on the far side.

We visited with our 20 month old son who is obsessed with Trains and Buses. As my wife works for TFL we could get in free of charge with our staff and nominee oyster cards which was great as the entrance fee is not cheap. My son really enjoyed the museum you can go in a lot of the buses and trains in the museum and they have a lot of interactive exhibits, my son particularly enjoyed pretending to drive the bus and tube train.
