OMG!!

Reviewed By dogearred

We were really looking forward to staying here as the write ups were so favourable and it looked to be a very interesting old building. We should have taken note of the faded and peeling paint on the front of the Tea Rooms! We met the owner Yoshi who was lovely and she led us down a side road and into a dark untidy cobbled yard at the back of the premises that screamed neglect. Spook Cottage was our destination and the twin room we had booked. We were shown into a dark, dank, musty smelling hall that contained an old table football table with a rough wooden cover. We were told that only we had access to this area although there were several doors, one was marked private (presumably to the hosts area) and had a cat flap as did the outside door we also saw the cat that used them. Our room was reminiscent of a cheap pack packers’ hostel with two low beds with bedding that felt unaired and one very thin pillow each, a scruffy mat between them. There was a tray with a kettle and drink making facilities and WiFi but there were no drawers and the only hanging space was four hooks on the wall with a few coat hangers and nowhere other than the beds to sit. The room was grubby and had not been properly cleaned, if at all, with dust, grit and cobwebs. The whole area was poorly maintained and the work that had been done was shoddy, in fact it needed a complete refurbishment. The shower room and toilet can only be described as subterranean as they were either the cellar or undercroft with no outside light. The shower however appeared to be very clean. The toilet was not suitable for anyone who feels claustrophobic. There was no lock on the bathroom door or the bedroom door, rather a hook and eye right at the top of the door which was hard to reach if you were under 5’5” and on tip toe, they provided dubious privacy. There were no toiletries and the towels didn’t invite use. We were then shown to the Tea Rooms where we were to have our breakfast, which again had the air of neglect and had the appearance of having been shut for several years with a layer of dust and grime on everything. We were not relishing the prospect of eating there. We were debating the best course of action when we were saved by a small family crisis which we were only too happy to attend, saved by the bell you might say! Old premises have their issues, I know I have lived in old buildings but this was a lack of cleanliness and maintenance. Proceed with caution – preferably in the opposite direction!

The perfect Setting

The Sportsmans is an absolute perfect setting just outside Pateley Bridge, not only will you be bowled over by the stunning views but the hotel and food do not disappoint. This is not a Sports bar as some assume You will not find any drunk men playing darts in the tap room but a beautiful hotel and restaurant set in the most idyllic Nidderdale countryside. The Staff here are so friendly and cannot do enough for you during your visit. The rooms are immaculately clean and comfortable. The food is excellent. I cant recommend the Sportsmans enough, it really is a little hidden gem that I urge anyone to visit.

Superb Base for Nidderdale Way

Reviewed By Alan H

Five of us stayed four nights here while tackling the Nidderdale Way. Clean, comfy rooms, very friendly, helpful service, very competitive prices, and breakfasts to die for - the smiley owners cooked exactly what each of us wanted each morning. B&B is smack bang in the middle of Pateley Bridge, within a few steps of local shops, restaurants and hostelries. If there's a downer, it's that there is no dedicated car park, so you have to find a space in one of the local streets or car parks and walk there; but it was never very far and unless you want to fall out of your car seat and into the lobby it's no big deal. Highly recommended and we would happily return.

Scammers!

Reviewed By RiaBell

Booked a weekend away to celebrate a friends hen do. The owners were fully aware of the reason for our stay, upon booking. Before arrival be prepared to block out two hours of your time to read through the house rules, basically breathing is only just permitted. Once you arrive at the venue, it's hard to relax as around every corner is laminated DONT's plastered all around the house, oh and not forgetting the cameras positioned in almost every room in the house. No doubt checking you've picked up that single crisp from the kitchen floor and placed it into the right waste disposal, because if not get ready for a hefty bill. Which brings me onto the main issue with this horrendously managed venue. As stated we booked Grassfield Hall as a HOLIDAY and to CELEBRATE. We respected the house throughout our entire stay. As 30 year old plus professional women, we maintained the cleanliness of which we found the venue when we arrived. On the Sunday prior to our departure we cleaned Grassfield from top to bottom. Floors mopped, all rubbish taken, balloons removed, cutlery/glassware put away, tables cleaned and polished, all beds stripped, all rooms vacuumed. Basically we was unpaid cleaners for the venue, at one point I forgot we was actually PAYING GUESTS! Two days after our departure we received an extremely insulting, email from Lisa, accusing me and my friends of practically destroying the house and leaving it in an horrendous state. Of which she demanded £380 for damages! One of the most laughable damage cost was an extra 6 hours of cleaning and their reason for this. "Because the floor needed mopping" I think Lisa at Grassfield Hall needs to overhaul her cleaning regime. We left a small pile of confetti on the floor, naughty us!!! And that cost us an extra £40! Oh and let's talk about the STAGED photos taken after our departure. Me and a friend checked every single room before leaving, every room was pristine. But when Lisa entered the house, litter was scattered across the bedroom. We demanded photos and I've never seen more staged photos in my entire life, the position of face wipes on the floor was impeccable almost believable but as I checked the entirety of the rooms I knew this had been staged. What started as an amazing weekend turned into a very upsetting and distressing time for all our party. Of course £380 divided by 16 guests is a minimal amount. But for us it was never about the money but the principal, we was accused of "damages" made to feel like we had smashed windows and broken doors. When in reality we didn't mop the floors to shiny bright standards and polish the china. The money has now been taken from my account and I will be taking this further. We went to Grassfield Hall for a holiday not be glorified maids for the weekend. DO NOT book to stay here, unless you enjoy cleaning and not relaxing then this venue is for you!

1 night stay

Had a lovely 1 night stay at this hotel, beautiful old building with lots of history, nice walk into Pateley Bridge. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We ate in the restaurant and was very impressed, food was great. The only 2 slight issues was the conservatory where we had our evening meal was really cold, also it would have been nice to have seen the fire lit in the bar area on what was a cold blustery night, other than that, great stay.

Stayed here with my partner & another couple for one night. We arrived early & found we could park our car & leave the luggage. The host was very friendly & helpful & there were lots of nice little extras around the accommodation. We had two double bedrooms, tea & coffee, television, biscuits & sweets & toiletries with a really good shower. Breakfast was lovely & nothing was too much trouble. The guest house is very central & ideally placed to walk to the pubs & cafes. Would definitely recommend.

The Nook at Nydsley Hall

The Nook at Nydsley Hall is a 3 bedroom basement apartment with a private entrance via your own private stone patio area complete with hot tub and outdoor seating for six guests. You enter via our large modern kitchen / dining room with bespoke Keseller kitchen and Neff appliances. The kitchen is well equipped to cook a fabulous dinner, and the large dining table seats six guests. The apartment has a cosy, cottage feel due to the low ceilings and beams in some rooms. For this reason, it may not be suitable for particularly tall guests as some of the doorways are less than 6ft high. We have three bedrooms (one kingsize, and two double) with supremely comfortable beds which have luxuriously upholstered velvet winged bedheads with superior Egyptian cotton bedding, and a stylish combination of antique and contemporary furniture. One bedroom has an en-suite WC with toilet and hand basin (but no bath or shower). One of the double bedrooms has a separate dressing area with window, blind and a hanging rail for your clothes. Your lounge is a good size with the original stone fireplace, a large smart TV with Netflix etc. and comfortable seating The large main bathroom has a freestanding roll top bath with traditional 'handset style' shower head, large sink with mirror, and WC. Please note that there is no walk in shower due to the restricted height of the ceiling. It has not been possible to add a wall mounted bracket for the hand held shower head because of the freestanding design of the bath tub, as it would not be suitable to have the shower spraying from above the bath. The hot tub is drained, cleaned and refilled before each guest arrives. We ask that you only use the hot tub from 9am until 9pm to avoid excessive outdoor noise for our neighbours as Pateley Bridge is a very quiet rural town, and sound travels further than you would imagine in the evenings. Despite being situated on the lower ground floor, each room (apart from the kitchen and bathroom) have windows which are dressed with high quality Christian Lacroix blackout Roman blinds. These blinds are usually set at half height when you arrive, but can be opened fully to allow extra light in the rooms. Additionally all the windows open freely, and have large, wide openings allowing easy exit, meeting the latest Fire regulations. We have four additional 2 bedroom apartments at Nydsley Hall which are listed separately to avoid confusion, as their room descriptions are quite different in terms of ceiling heights, and availabilty of walk-in, and full height showers. Please note also that we have recently changed the name of this suite from the Garden Suite (as it overlooks the garden) to The Nook at Nydsley Hall in order to better describe the accommodation.

We booked all of the apartments at Nydsley Hall so we had the whole house & loved everything about stay! All of the apartments are decorated to a high standard & are very well equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay (including fabulous hot tubs). The owners were very helpful and communication was excellent. Pateley Bridge is a lovely village with lots of cafes, tea rooms and shops - the locals were very friendly. Also only a 30 minute drive to Harrogate where we went for bottomless brunch on one of the days. Would definitely recommend especially if staying as a group due to the amount of space Nydlsey Hall offers.
