Fort Zeelandia Museum

Reviewed By ntngayve - Brossard, Canada

The fort was originally build in the 15th century by the Dutch to protect its commerce in the East, then taken from them by Caoxingu, a Ming dynasty general who fought against the newly establish Qing dynasty which finally capture it. Of the original fort, only a few walls exist. What is seen today was build by the Qing after its capture to defend this important part of Formosa (Taiwan). The canons displayed are also made by the Chinese army. The tall white tower that looks a little like a airport control tower was erected only in the 1970s to serve as a lighthouse. The museum is a must to understand everything about this fort as it contains numerous historical drawings and pictures. Quite interesting.
