The 8 Best Transportation in Pathum Wan, Thailand

August 7, 2021 Joeann Galban

Golden palaces, floating markets, majestic porcelain-laid spires…you've never seen a capital city quite like Bangkok. Visit Pratunam or Siam Square for premium shopping, then unwind in the European-style gardens of Dusit. Thon Buri is home to the awesome Wat Arun temple, and over in Phra Nakhon, you’ll find the Wat Pho temple of the Reclining Buddha. Savor mango sticky rice at a food stall before taking in the gilded splendor of the Grand Palace.

Arriving at the airport, we were directed to a location where only our driver was waiting; at others tens of drivers and customers were crowded. Returning to the airport, our driver arrived at the hotel a half-hour early in a spacious and comfortable van, and we arrived very quickly to the airport. Definitely a pampered mode of transport and worth the bit extra money.

MRT

Reviewed By bob2bkk - Bangkok, Thailand

There are two main transportation systems in Bangkok, other than taxis and busses. The BTS Skytrain, like the name implies, above ground and the MRT, which is the subway. The MRT is by far, hands down the more efficient and better managed company of the two. Unfortunately for tourists, the BTS takes you thru the center of the city. The MRT circles around from Hua Lampong train station to Chatujack weekend market. MRT offers monthly passes, senior and student tickets. No senior tickets at BTS. The MRT has escalators from train platform to ticket counter to street. The BTS, was just forced to put in elevators and some stations do not have them at all. The MRT will be your best option if it takes you close to where you need to be, ex. work or school. It also brings you close to Thailand Cultural Center and right to the door of the Queen Sirikit Convention Center. Plan on very cold air conditioned trains.

If you love trains like I do ( I have worked in the railway for many years when I was younger)- this is a great place. Great atmosphere, great restaurants/cafes. I came in the evening. If I had been there a little earlier, I could have seen the reaction of Thai people when they play the national anthem. This is a great place to see that because there are so many people and you can be sure they they play the anthem here.I will be back with my camera another time

Originally, booked second class ticket from Hua Hin to Hua Lamphong railway station in Bangkok for 800 baht when I bought the tickets the day before my departure. When I bought the tickets, was not offered first class. I went back to the ticketing counter and asked if they have first class and ticketing staff said yes. I top up an extra 500 baht to buy a first class ticket. On the day of departure, train arrival was delayed by an hour from 6.30 to 7.30am. My train, the Thaksinarath Express arrived at 7.30am. It was a brand new train with updated cabins. I was brought to my personal cabin by the train attendant. He was very helpful and helped to make my cabin seat to lie flat bed. There's also a shower room with instant hot water and food coach right at the end of the train. There are 2 classes in the train, 1st class which comes in a individual cabin (upper and lower deck) and 2nd class which has both upper and lower decks with 40 paxs in a cabin. Both classes are air conditioned. It was a very good experience taking a 4 over hours first class train journey which was very affordable and pleasant as well.
