The 8 best Specialty lodgings in Manchester, United Kingdom

April 25, 2023 Veronika Gaddis

Famed for its soccer team and music scene, which has produced the likes of the Smiths and Oasis, this center for sports and the arts is a down-to-earth and friendly city. The so-called Capital of the North has overcome industrial decline, bombing (in WWII and by the IRA) to become a confident and cosmopolitan city of well over two million. It is well served by a bus and light rail network. Top attractions include the Lowry art complex, arcade Affleck's Palace and Canal Street gay village.

A good all rounder

Just stayed here for 2 nights. The apartment was spacious and clean with good quality facilities. We enjoyed the breakfasts very much with excellent service from Margaret. In fact all the staff were really helpful and cheerful. It's only a 15 minute walk to the centre of Manchester and we found it very convenient and good value for money.

Nice but…

The Room was nice but it was not too clean. I found a ball of fluff next to my bed and dust on the floor and windows. It wasToo hot and the bar closes too early. It should stay open for guests only after 11pm.

Do not book this place

I booked this hotel for myself and my two children as a Manchester Utd match was refixed to be played in old Trafford. Anyway the day after I booked on booking.com the manager Mitch rang me up to say the room was no longer available and they overbooked by mistake and he would have to give me a refund. I wasn’t happy but got my refund of £49 back. But when I went back into the website for booking they had increased the price to £241 (as it was match day) Price Gouging of the highest order. Never book this hotel online as they could cancel it at any minute leaving you high and dry

Highly recommended

We held my Brother's wake here on 29th April. I would like to thank Liam for all his help with the arrangements. Also thank you to all the staff who worked there on the day for their help in making sure the day ran as smoothly as possible. The room was perfect for all of Mike's family and friends. The catering was delicious and everyone commented on how tasty the food was. We were also allowed to bring our elderly dog, which helped to make the tough day a little more bearable. I would highly recommended the Bowling Green.  Thank you to Liam and the team ?

Superb

A weekend catching up with friends and we stumbled across this gem as one of us wanted to watch the Sunderland playoff final. Staff were superb, food was great and made to feel very welcome. If you are in Manchester get yourself there. An issue with one of the beers but dealt with by the bar staff and they couldn't apologise enough.

NOTHING GOOD ABOUT THIS “HOTEL”

Reviewed By ryanbE9931UO

Where do I start? For starters there is no one ever present at the reception, so any help needed you can forget it. The room isn’t as nice as the photos. Not 1 lamp worked in the room, we were given tea and coffee but no milk so what’s the point as you can’t get any from reception cause no one is there. Furniture falling to pieces and 1 tea spoon no forks or anything. Would not recommend, definitely stay away. If this is the only place available you should still stay clear, £100 absolutely wasted.

DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE

Reviewed By TravelerRiri

Very run down property, exterior looks like you’re going into a HMO. Going in, the place was empty with a couple of bin bags on top the floor with what looked like bedding and towels and two chairs that were heavily stained. There were two suitcases and we were told someone is coming to collect them at some point? (Random stranger will be coming in) Moving upstairs, they were very steep and very dirty. Door handles falling off, when you go Into the room the bedsheets were stained, mismatch sheets and general uncleanliness. Bathroom was tiny and covered in toothpaste, shower gel, hair, MOULD! You name it. Toilet seat was broken in one room, and fallling apart in the other. Under the bed looks like it has never been cleaned - ever. Microwave covered in some kind of food on the outside, toaster full of bread crumbs. Spider webs everywhere. The 2nd room has dead and live bugs in the draw, floor was disgustingly dirty. We thought we would be okay thought we would just buy cleaning products and clean and buy our own bedsheets but even after all this it was horrible. We did not stay and found a new hotel which was extortionate but we had no choice! We contacted booking.com and are awaiting a full refund. The host was absolutely useless, apparently he couldn’t do anything to rectify the standards as the cleaner doesn’t work weekends. Ended up getting a bite from something on my thumb and we were only there 1-2 hours!
