The foundation of this Franciscan male convent began with the donation of the surrounding land by Don Francisco Coutinho, Count of Marialva, in 1525, as part of an earlier fortified tower from the 14th century. Highlight for the eight boards painted in 1533-1534 by the so-called "Masters of Ferreirim" on display at the Interpretive Center.

This rural Church was probably founded in the 14th century by the monastery of Alpendorada (Marco de Canaveses). Despite the massive appearance of its structure and the persistence of decorations with a Romanesque flavour, there are visible transitions into the Gothic style: the use of the broken arch, of which the main element is the Chancel's window.
