River Tay Public Art Trail

Reviewed By Vivekananda_L - Dundee, United Kingdom

Have had some lovely walks around the art trail, through the wonderful heather (all maintained by volunteers) across the Railway Bridge which is a bit of a treat for little people and back onto Tay Street. As you come off the Railway Bridge turn left back under the bridge to the sculpture at the Fergusson Museum and if opened then this is also well worth a visit, be sure to spend at least half an hour there if not more. The whole trail takes in the pedestrian area of Perth and (parts of 4) lovely parks. If disabled access is required there are on street alternatives to what is shown on the leaflet (can be had at the Tourist info place on the High St) or from the online story map (an excellent interactive map with pics and text provided for free by the Council), the only difficulty would be the many stairs coming off of the railway bridge. The alternative is to backup through the Riverside park and cross the Tay via the Queens Bridge.

51st Highland Division Memorial

Reviewed By craigluscar - Dunfermline, United Kingdom

Situated at the south end of The North Inch quite near the River Tay this is a beautifully sculpted statue with several plaques one declaring '' This memorial pays tribute to all who served in the 51st Highland Division in the two World Wars. It symbolizes the liberation of our European Allies from occupation and repression in 1945 and commemorates the 50 years of peace that have followed." The sculptor was Alan Herriot and shows a Dutch girl giving a rose to a kilted piper from the Division. The statue replicates a memorial unveiled at Schijndel in the Netherlands, which was unveiled to mark the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the town by the 51st Highland Division on 23rd October 1944. There is a plaque with the impressive Battle Honours won by the regiment

Sculpture of Pensive Man

Reviewed By therichastill - Stevenage, United Kingdom

The Sculpture of A Pensive Man is a large metal ring with two men opposite each other. It's in the High Street in the City Centre. It's quite an unusual statue but certainly eye catching. When I visited young people were climbing on it and using it as a meeting point. Definitely thought provoking.

Nice sculpture in the heart of Perth city centre. Great photographic opportunity as you can sit on the bench beside it. There are also another 2 sculptures further up the road.
