The Monday Echo

The Monday Echo is a songwriter and spoken showcase every Monday night. Each week, a different line up of about 7 local artists perform short sets of their own work. The night takes place in a traditional pub setting with no microphones or amplification. This "listening venue" makes it possible to hear every detail in the music and voices. The show happens every Monday in the basement of the Mezz bar in the heart of Dublin's Temple Bar district. The audience can reach the candlelit basement venue via a series of corridors and back stairs. Best to ask for directions at the main bar.

We specialise in the humanities - especially Irish literature, poetry, culture and history. Our beautifully preserved Georgian building on D'Olier Street houses a literary café on the first floor, and is the headquarters of the Dublin Review of Books. We host literary and history events regularly - poetry readings, book launches, interviews, discussions.

Opened in December 2017 by Pam and Alan, Square offers a beautifully designed retail and gallery space alongside a speciality coffee bar. At Square it's not only about the coffee, great coffee is just our standard. It’s the welcoming, enthusiastic team of baristas and the well designed, aesthetically pleasing space that combine to create an environment to enjoy while browsing or admiring the art while your espresso shot is being prepared. We are massive advocates of supporting sustainability, fairly traded and local produce, our ethically sourced coffee which will always be Specialty Grade or above is roasted in Naas. We are currently working with four bakers and producers for our delicious accompaniments who are all based in Kildare town.

The huge chocolate squares I had with my excellent coffee. Due to Covid 19 restrictions you may enter and purchase take away products only so no time to sit and chat. Even so you are greeted with the lovely aroma of coffee and good food causing you to salivate. Maybe not everybody does but there is something about the smell of freshly ground coffee and the Barista banging away the old grinds and preparing a new cup of coffee for you. Inside as you wait in a small queue (3 meters apart and all that) you get a lovely sense of peace and calm minus the buzz of people sitting and eating etc. While it is strange to go to a coffee shop and do take away food and drink it is still a lovely experience. Added to the eternal patience of the staff and it is not easy to understand us customers in our masks no matter how trendy some of them are. Questions regarding Gluten Free products are welcome and unlike a lot of coffee shops they have a good range so my wife was more than happy. Your cake is put into a nice little square box not a shiny plastic one. More classy I think myself and it makes you feel like you had a better experience than coffee at a Petrol station on the motorway. There are a few seats scattered around on the street outside and it is a nice place to sit on an Autumnal day watching the buses come in and go out and people pushing buggies with babies and normal life going on. Yes there is nothing square about this coffee shop. Good food, coffee, friendly staff and great service.

Butlers Chocolate Cafe, Grafton Street

Since our foundation in 1932, we have strived to bring a little happiness to the world one chocolate at a time. Because nothing complements happiness better than coffee, in 1998 we opened the very first Butlers Chocolate Café in a beautiful corner of Wicklow Street in Dublin’s city centre. Our aim was to create a luxurious haven for chocolate and coffee lovers alike; a place where customers could enjoy the highest quality coffee, tea and chocolate beverages in stylish, welcoming and characterful surroundings. A free Butlers chocolate of choice is offered with every prepared beverage purchased!

They have a huge selection of various kinds of chocolates, cakes, muffins and brownies. They also offer quite a few hot chocolate variations as well as other hot and cold drink choices. We loved everything we got and also purchased several chocolate bars as gifts for family back home.
