Snagov Monastery

Monastery said to be the final resting place of Vlad (Count) Tepes, also known as Vlad Dracula.

Supposedly Vlad Dracul's final resting place, I was under the impression I'd be getting a boat to the island in the middle of the lake. I was a bit disappointed when we walked across a modern bridge! The church itself is well worth a visit, to see Vlad's tomb (allegedly) and a riot of colouful frescoes.

This place will surely surprise most folk that do not originate from Romania. It is an amazing playground for the young, the not so young and indeed anyone who enjoys woodlands, seeing children almost beyond happiness and maybe last but not least an up and coming zoo.
The main element is surely the zip wire lines that run from tree to tree providing both children and adults some challenging and amazing thrills. The park has two sections, one aimed at the younger children, the other for both older offspring and indeed agile adults.
Once inside it is easy to see how you could be there all day, in truth it is fascinating to see various bodies flying along wires, some of which are high, very high in the trees. It is also worth noting that the safety policing is excellent, guides are on hand to ensure that all participants are aware and observe the safety rules that will prevent anyone falling from on high.
There is so much to see and do, the zip wires, the children's play park, simply walking through magnificent woodland and of course the zoo visit which is clearly expanding in terms of animal numbers and varieties.
There is a cafe area offering snacks and drinks and of course full toilet facilities. Parking is free but there is a cost to use the zip lines.

Flyboard Snagov

Our trip to Romania was a family trip, we rented a car for a week and can honestly say that we ALL had fun, yes including my teenage boys! We went to Snagov on our way back to Bucharest. We are so glad we stopped by. It was late in the afternoon and we had to drive through the woods off the beaten path; we read that Vlad Dracul was decapitated in the woods near Bucharest so we felt that we were driving through historic sites. When we arrived to the village it took us a minute to find someone to take us to the island but eventually someone got a hold of the boat man, although we spoke no Romanian. The boat man was a nice elderly man. The ride to the island was very spooky and very cool, with wolves hauling in a starless night. We all felt like Vlad's hand would reach us from the dark waters. My children always talk about our Romanian trip. We love to be scared and Snagov and Romania in general did not disappoint. When we reach the monastery a monk was on the grounds and charged us a small fee. They spoke no English and we did not take pictures but he gave us a pamphlet, which I treasure. The whole place is so genuine and honest, I mean I did not feel like a tourist but like someone who has been let in in a secret. When the elderly gentleman took us back on his boat to the village, one of my kids gave him a hug and the gentleman cried and thanked him.
